RE: Lets talk hunting stabilizers
ORIGINAL: OHbowhntr ORIGINAL: bigcountry I can't say it happens on all bows or setups. But I do know it happened to me. And I have witness's on this page. I do need to go back and try it again and get to the bottom of it. I feel the difference is the design of the "stopper" on the bowtechs. I am not familiar with hoyts design. Seems like hoyt lets there be some string movement past static position. It wasn't a huge deal on my liberty (which is why I bought the meanV), I went from 260 to 254. I have sold that bow. But what was shocking was it dropped my commander from 275 to lower 260's. Also added back weight and got my bow out of balance. I talked to Dave on here position his STS real low and he got a speed increase. So started investigating this. And found two other peoples bows dropped in speed also. Theirs were like the liberty, only losing a few fps. I admit, I need to revisit it. The commander is already dead quiet. I need to experiement with distance from the string, and position. But the now the meanv just sits in my archery box. I tried selling on ebay with no luck and on here. |
RE: Lets talk hunting stabilizers
ORIGINAL: TFOX ORIGINAL: drockw I need to try this whole string suprressor thing. I may just have to rob one off of an AM and test the before and after speeds sometime this week. Not trying to prove you wrong BC, it just brings up an interesting thought thats all. I can actually see the speed increase in theory. I think the determining factor could be the nock style. If the string is exceeding the static position of the bow,and the nock is clipped tight, it may cause it to stay on the string long enough for it to actually loose a little KE, b/c once the string is past static, it is slowing down. It is still in forward motion, but is not being pushed anymore, and inertia is letting the string proceed forward, but it is technically slowing down. If you stopped it at or right after the static position the arrow would not be in contact with the string after the string stopped pushing forward. Just a thought, maybe crazy, but just a thought... I do a know a guy who had bad results with a string stop. He put a string tamer on his X6 and the results werent great. Before applying it he was tuned well, and thru paper tore very close to perfect(not saying paper is know all or anything, that was just something to go by). after he put it on he was getting bad arrow kick (visible to the eye) and was seeing bad tears. Took it off, and there was no problem. He moved it all around and tried all kinds of tricks to get it to work but nothing did. He may have just had a bad arrow combo for the string stop or something, but it did not tune well with the ST. Just his experience with it. I got one and replaced my Generals factory one the same day and my results were great. No issues what so ever. The X6 just wouldnt do it for some reason that day... Derek IMO,This is on the money and here is a video showing when the arrow is released from the string. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYnJufwwFDk |
RE: Lets talk hunting stabilizers
Just got new strings and set Cam sync on my 82nd with the New Camirror (quite impressive product by the way)in the past few days, so since I had not chronoed it yet. I thought now was a great time to do so. Bow was set at 61# shooting a CX Maxima 250 weighing 325 grains. The Chrono is a Competetion Electronics. I shot 2 arrows and averaged the speed under 3 different conditions.
1st, No Suppressor at all. I did not have a peep on the string either. 2 shots average speed 322fps 2nd, mounted a MeanV and adjusted 1/8" off the string 2 shots duplicate speed of 323fps 3rd,adjusted the MeanV to just touch the string at brace. (the way I usually adjust mine) 2 shots duplicate speed of 323fps I might add all shots with the Meanv installed were duplicates on speed. With no suppressor on the bow I got one shot at 321fps and one at 323fps. Maybe that doesn't mean anything, but I did think it was interesting none the less. The 1st shot without a Suppressor was eye opening in the amount of vibe felt and noise heard compared to what I'm used to out of the 82nd. All in all nothing different than what I expected. Basically no change in speed either way. New Strings and Cam Sync by CaMirror and that 82nd is screaming though!!:D Dan |
RE: Lets talk hunting stabilizers
Thanks Dan, very interesting. In just my basic way of theorizing things it would seem that the follow through of the string pushing an arrow on forward with no suppressor would allow higher speeds, but no!!!! In all actuality I am guessing that upon reaching brace that the string launching an arrow has reached its full potential. Sounds like to me with the proper suppressor and placed at optimum position that a suppressor can help suppress noise and vibration while not sacrificing performance. My opinion anyway.

Interesting!. Getting back to stabilizers. Dan (MV) I remember you getting a B-stinger a few wks. back. What length/wt. combo did you get and what were your findings with it? Has anyone here had any experience with Posten's?

RE: Lets talk hunting stabilizers
Well boys, when a man is wrong, he is wrong. I don't know whats going on. My F1 chrony is acting flakey. I got readings from 20-500. Tried the sunshades, and moved to the shade and got some readings. So I got a pro chrony. And now all I can say is the MeanV is having no effect on velocity good or bad.
I measured my Commander with and without, 1/8" from the string, pushing on the string, high and low. With a 450gr Carbon eXpress Edge I get 269-272fps. I did have interference with the football (holds the cable)when I used it turned high. But thats not the suppressors fault. Still say Dancan berude and crude especially to a customer who has bought stuff off him more than4 times. But his suppressor works. And I appoligize for running down his product. It wasn't right of me since I didnt do a though job testing it out before I opened my mouth. Now got to figure out whats wrong with my F1.[:o] Now if I just had a suppressor to test my Guardian. Good news is my guardian is 10fps faster than my commander.[:-] |

Has anyone here had any experience with Posten's? Dan I am liking the bow So much I have both it and the Carnivore with me Turkey hunting. The Sentinel will get first chance if there is one. After I shoot the bow a while I'm going to switch stabilizers to see how it affects things, so I'll be able to give a betteropinion of it in a few weeks. BC, No hard feelings here. I just felt like you had been coming for me at everything I post. If I make a post I usually have a lot of experience backing that posts and manytimes lots of feedback I get from top notch archers thatI trust totally. I have tested several bows with and without suppressors and had Never saw the results that you had talked about, but just to do it again I ran my new 82nd through the paces too. Results were what I expected. Sorry if I was rude! Typing a reply often comes off different than you intend. I have never seen an archer I wouldn't help if they needed it and if I could. I maybe from IL but I guess I'm close enough to MO that sometimes if you are gonna prove me wrong you gotta show me. I respect everyones opinion, but that does not mean I have to agree. It would be a pretty dull place if we all agreed. That's the way We All can learn, me included. As far as I'm concerned Truce!:D Dan |
