High FOC arrows
I'm looking at a set up next year going to high FOC.
In Ontarget2 I this set up
Bowtech allegiance
28"
62 lbs
27" Goldtip CAA 400
100 grain insert/100grain broadhead 457 total grains
19.83% FOC
I was reading I think one of Ashby's articles or whoever talks about high FOC arrows and he said you don't start seeing the effects until you get over 20%.
I can get over 20% if I add a 125 gr. broadhead but then my current spine is too weak and I'd like to stick with the same spine that I'm currently shooting.
What say you high FOC experts?

RE: High FOC arrows
Try and see what happens. With my bow I can smooth things out ormake it "highly strung" which would effect the spine. Charts are great, but just a guide.
The whole high foc thing doesn't thrill me and that's based on the "try and see" approach.

If you're going to attain 20 + you will have to get a stiffer spine. I use 340 spine on my hunting arrows because of my FOC, I shoot 220 grain Muzzy Phantoms, and 400 for 3D. Sometimes you can get by with cutting your arrow down. P.M Kanga on the forum he has a computer program and he can run some numbers for ya.
He's set up a lot of arrows for me.

Do these gold tip weights screw into the regular threads on any insert just as a broadhead would?
http://www.goldtip.com/products/fami...;rnd=248729765
I would like to go with a regular muzzy brass insert but it states they are for 5/16" shafts and I am shooting gold tip CAA and they are not 5/16".
The only thing I'm worried about with the screw in weights is them coming loose during shooting and rattlingin the shaft. I guess some loctite would take care of that.

Turn down the poundage on your bow, 60#'s maybe, and that will get a stiffer spine.

i dont know why people always forget that???..... thats a huge reasonwhy Compounds are made with the Weight adjustability built into them....
adjustable poundage is one of the biggest aides in tuning your equipment to work in perfect harmony.....adjustable limbs arenot just there to give you afasterarrow/or easier pull.....but to aid you in tuning.

RE: High FOC arrows
That's fine and dandy, and I will probably be doing that but I only have 2 more lbs or adjustment (60-70lb) bow.
I decided to bump up the spine to a .350 so that I can have as much weight as I want up front and run a tad stiff or raise my poundage a few lbs. It gives me more options than trying to address an underspined arrow.

I have been shooting around 10 to 15% foc for 20 are so years and have been blowing trough every deer, elk and even through a couple of shoulder blades ( paddle bones ) on deer with complete pass through and stuck the arrow in the ground. I alway set my arrow up to my poundage by shooting 125, 100 and 85 gr. points to see witch group the best out to 60 yards and with my set ups it most of the time it's with 85 are 100 gr, points. I shoot 70 lbs at 28 inches with blazer vanes. My 400 Axis groups better with 100 gr.broadheads and I did shot through a paddle bone this year with them at 25 yards and the arrow was stuck in the ground about 4 or 5 inches
