Happy as a pig in sh@+, but my shoulder hurts
#1
Well I finally cranked my new mighty might down to see what she could do.
I turned the following with 435 grain arrow : 65# = 268 ave
67#= 275 ave
70#= 283 with a high of 285.
The 65# /268 = 69 ft/lbs ke
67# 275 = 73 ft/lbs ke
70# 285 = 78 ft/lbs ke
All of these speed were obtained with 29" draw and the Hush Kit ON.
I am more than happy with the results and am a happy new bow owner.
I know that there might be " smoother" or whatever bows out there. But when your comparing this bow to a 6 year old mathes Z-light and a reflex extreme solo all I can say is it feels good to me.
Now the hurt shoulder part- while I was doing some comparitive shooting I noticed that my mathews felt as if it had a slightly longer, more comfortable draw length. The MM kind feels like I' m cramped and can move the bow back and forth at full draw. I was at full draw checking this out (while at 70#) and turned the bow away from my body to look at something when the 80% letoff did it' s thing. The bow comes jerking foreward with me resisting it and brought itself back to the undrawn position. I figured it was gonna hurt, but it didn' t at the time.
Now the next day, Ouww crap my shoulder hurts right where the arm connects to the shoulder socket (on top). Did I rip something??
I' ve been shooting 65 and 67# for deer season, but kind of slacked off shooting sinc then. I should only have been fooling with 65# and less. I just HAD to see what it could do.

You probably didn' t rip anything, or your shoulder would have swollen up and moving it would be extremely painful, causing you to see a Doctor. But you did stretch the rotator cuf, and that can lead to damage if you don' t take it easy, let it heal and avoid pulling too much weight. maybe back off to 60 lbs for awhile.
good luck with the new bow.

Definatlely rotator cuff (could be a tear... a small RC tear won' t swell much)....if it still hurts in about 5 days go get it checked out.....it' s nothing to mess around with....a little bitty tear can turn into $10,000 in surgery in a real hurry. Glad you like the MM....my hunting buddy just bought one.....

I did the same thing on the same bow. I shot mine at the indoor spots (cause I' m funny like that
) and was meesing around. I cranked it up and shot 15-20 arrows and felt fine...till the next day! Sore...and it still hasn' t gone away. That was 3 weeks ago.

I did the same thing with my Parker bow a couple years ago. When that sucker let off and I held onto the string I didnt hurt my shoulder but I did end up with a nice piece of meat hanging from my palm -took 7 stitches to sew it back together.

Glad to here I' m not the only one, but Moredecaia your story sounds bloody painful.
I felt a little better today and popped some Skelaxin' s my wife got from the orthopedic surgeon (she used to be his nurse till our baby came
).
Any how, I decided it would be best not to shoot or do anything else strenuous until it feels 100%. Better to wait until then or I' ll be nursing a hurt shoulder for a while. Deer seasons a ways away, so no big deal.
This just means I have to go fishing instead of pig hunting for now!!
I called my dealer today to see about a 29.5" module and he said that they have come out with the .5" modules for the infinity cam, but he was out. He told me to try back in a couple of weeks and see if he got some in. I figured I could at least give it a shot before I just accept the shorter feel.

Sound like you strained the supraspinatus mm, one of the mm of the rotator cuff.
Rest it and use an aniti-inflammitory. Avoid reaching overhead or any painful movements for awhile, then gradually, and I mean gradually, get back to normal movements. Use ice for 20 min. on, 20 min. off, then 20 min. on again if you feel
you have over done it at the end of the day. If intense pain persists after approx
2 wks, consult a Dr.
Look on the internet for Rockwood' s exercises. Use light resistance to start out with.

I tend to agree with the others. Give it a rest for at least a few days. A week would be better. Then give it another try. Definitely do not overdo it at first and then if it still hurts I would go to a doctor. I had pulled a muscle in my forearm last September...right before our archery season. I, obviously, could not stop shooting for any extended period of time so it did not really stop being painful until the end of January.
Just be glad it happened now and not next fall.

Yes, rotator cuffs and shoulder injurys can be a pain. Anybody out there ever broken a rib? I did. One day in the treestand with my 80 lb PSE at full draw, I lost my balance (Thank God for safety belts). The 80 lbs coupled with the twist to the left did a spiral fracture on a rib. Didn' t stop the bowhunting, but I sure did back off on the weight. There is good news though, I now have arthritis in it and can tell when the weather fronts are coming. At least I' ll know when to be in the woods!!!

Well the winds too high for fishing, so I just might have to run out to the deer lease after all. I' m gonna squeeze two pig hunts (65# reflex) in and won' t draw unless I' ve got pork in front of me. Thanks for all the advice
