how much is to little??
so i bought a Hoyt Banshee (30-40lbs) a few year's ago and i'm wanting to go whitetail hunting with it this year. it would only be a 20yd shot. but is that just to little power with that bow maxed out to take down a whitetail???

A40 pound compound bow is more than enough bow to take down white tail deer. The key is to use a heavy arrow and a scary sharp, small diameter broadhead to maximize penetration and be able to put that arrow right behind the shoulder.
And as The Rev said check your local regulations concerning minimum draw weight. Florida, Alabama and Colorado require 35 pounds as a minimum to hunt big game animals, including elk and moose.

Definately good enough for deer. If it were me I'd treat it like a trad bow, follow the same guidelines that you would for a recurve. Use a heavier arrow and a cut on contact broadhead with a good length to diameter ratio.

Go...practice, practice, practice then Get you some Magnus Stingers and go hunting.
I took the last two I got before my shoulderreconstruction flew apart, with 32# bow andMagnus Stingers.Complete passthrough lung shots. Neither one left my sight.
