well, an arrow saw (from apple) costs about $240, the wheels came from work ($0), the sewing machine was laying around and not working ($0), and a little innovation on my part should get me an arrow saw at the value of roughly... $0.

I am a college student, so it's not like my time is all that valuble. I work, but I only work the days I'm not at school until 4, so I've got time.

Safety isn't a concern, you have to die of something, might as well be on something I made than some other goober halfway across the world.

If it doesn't spin fast enough or whatever, i'll just throw it away. But I promise, I will have an arrow saw made... eventually. lol

thanks for the replies

You'll learn things making your own that will be a benifit later on regardless of how it turns out.

fwiw, I like your attitude.

I would love to see a picture of your homemade one when you are done.

We tend to over think the arrow cutting process, and make it too complicated. I've been using adremel tool for years. At first I made a jig to make certain they were square. I have at my disposal a saw at my sponsors shop, however when I'm in a rush, the dremel works fine.

In cutting arrows you have to have the RPM's with the smallest amount of abrasion. A square cut is imperative.

I have seen some posts where they were using a mini saw from harbor freight
Heres the link and its only 26 bucks

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=42307

This what I use right now,the RPM's are a little low but it does the job.
Should be pretty decent, it's only 200 RPM short of the Apple PRO, and it's 2800 faster than some of them. Could also be a blade issue though. I just have never seen a real need for one, but this little thing may have other uses around the workshop, which makes it interesting to me.

I use my older 10" power miter saw with a thin cerf 7 1/4" 40 tooth carbide blade. I always use a backer board of some kind, been using some maple for years. Cut through the arrow and wood at the same time. The wood is notched so the arrow sits in the grove. Clean square cuts every time. Doesn't matter what the arrows made of. Blade is a frued, cost 20 bucks or less.

For those at home watching, it's a real 3450 rpm's.

You need a fence (not so long that a fletch would be in the way) so the arrow stays square to the blade and your hand out of the way. The clamps worthless unless your cutting one thing that takes some time to get through. You should also think about a dust port. You could tape a shopvac hose on some how.
