I was shooting today, and once of again having a crapload of fletching contact. Eventually one of my fletchings ripped off. I was so torqued off about it that I decided to just fire it too. So I took out my knife and cut loose the remaining vane and cleaned the shaft up good. I shot it, and it shot truer than the rest of my arrows
Finally I cut the cock vane off three arrows, and shot them, and shot excellant groups the rest of the night. I shot the cock vane (which was missing) down, so I had NO contact issues, and I couldn't believe how I ended up shooting. It was borderline unbelievable that the arrows shot so well with only two vanes. It was really windy here today, maybe up to 30 MPH at times, and we shot out to 60 yards, and they flew true in the wind with only two vanes and hit spot on.
So why couldn't I cut the cock vane off all my arrows and shoot them? Looks like I could to me, if they do this good in the wind (I mostly do 3-d, I wouldn't begin to attemt this with a broadhead).
Just looking for thoughts/opinions. Thanks

While your shooting without the cock vane was noticeably more consistent without the fletching contact, it is probably still not as consistent as it should be with 3 vanes and no contact.
Did you change the distance you were shooting, or were all of your shots from relatively the same distance? If you start backing up, what you probably will find is that while the arrows still may group, the pattern will wander all over the target as you get further back. This would be a nightmare to try and compensate for if you are having to gap pins.
In short, get your fletcing contact issues figured out, and go back to shooting 3 vanes.

You're only masking the bigger issue. When it's time to put the BH's on you will have to re-tune everything. Do it now so you can enjoy shooting all year and not have to do last minute fixes.

Blazers can be tricky to shoot without getting any contact. I possible quick fix since you have ripped off all your cock vanes is try some lower profile vanes that give you more clearance. Just a thought. Hope this helps.

We shot out to 60 yards, mixing it up between 20 and 60 all day, different angles. They grouped as well as ANY arrows I'd ever shot before ( even before I got the new string and started having so many problems ).
Davepjr, I'm not trying to mask any issue. I'm simply amazed at how well the arrows shot missing a vane. I know my bow needs work, but I'm putting it off until my Bowtech Hostage comes in later this week. No use in tuning it with my dropaway then having to retune with a different rest

Also, I don't strap broadheads on. I hardly ever deer hunt with my bow, that's why I own guns. If I do, I just throw on my shockwaves and go, never had a problem with shot placement with those.
Today I bought some 2" feathers and put them on this evening, I guess I'll see how well I like them Wednesday.
Thanks for the replies.
