I'm planning on getting the Pro 40 Dually to use strictly as a 3D rig (open class). On paper, it looks like a great choice. I'm just waiting for the dealer to get one in he has on order so I can try it first and see if it's "the one". It will be my first target colored bow (multi-colored black and pewter).

I'm compeditive now in my class and I'm shooting a Martin Cougar at a very slow 235 fps (do alot of yardage practice) so them boys will really have to watch over thier shoulder once I get &quot;up to speed&quot;<img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>. The Cougar 2000 is a great bow but I should get some tremendous gains (the big ones being brace height and SPEED). I seriously looking forward to getting aquainted with my new best friend, if these things would start shipping already.

I made a few attempts at getting this Martin shooting fast (278 at just shy of 5 grains per lb. (4.8)) w/ 28 3/4&quot; draw but always seemed to loose a huge amount of forgiveness with this one cammer. With the bowtech, the speed issue shouldn't be a problem. If I have to give away a little speed to get things dialed in then that's fine. With my current setup accuracy was always the comprimise I had to make for speed (with the combinations I've tried anyway). I honestly think my form can handle the speed, but this setup just got touchy at the speed I was trying to get from it.

I think I'm going to be shooting at 60 lbs, BTW.

It should be a great bow for 3D and the way I'd lean if it will be primarily for 3D, like the others said.

At the top right hand part of each thread screen there is a drop down menu that asks how many days of past threads you would to have access to at any given time. I believe the default number is 30 days. However, you can go back to every thread in this forum for a full year if you have the desire. I went back and checked for it this morning. I believe my review on that particular bow was lasted accessed on Feburary 26th, 2002. You should have to go back in the 60s in terms of pages.

I cannot remember if Matt posted his on this forum or the Bowhunting one and I haven't seen him around lately to ask.

As for the topic at hand......
I have a Pro40 Dual Cam on order for my 3D rig. I've shot the Patriot quite a bit, as well as the Pro38 Dual and single cams.
I simply loved my 2001 Pro38 Dual Cam which is why I ordered the Pro40 Dually........similar specs but with over 1/2&quot; higher brace height.
In the right hands the Patriot would make a respectible 3D bow, most likely hunter class, but the Pro38 or Pro40 or my Pro40Dually IMO will make much better 98% 3D set-ups. Any of these 3 bows in my mind will do double duty better than the Patriot will, especially when you are leaning toward the target/3D end of the decision.

One thing to consider as well......a 60# Pro40 Dual Cam at 30&quot; will allow you to shoot 3D comfortably at weights 60# and under and still get PLENTY of speed, then when hunting season rolls around max it out at 60# or so and you now have an easy drawing bow that hits as hard as most 70# single cams on the market.
(At 61# and a 372gr arrow my Pro38 Dual Cam shot 299fps......)
This bow in a 60# will provide you with enough comfort to handle any target situation, and MORE THAN enough KE to handle any game animal you could want to hunt.

What is the BH and let off on the 2001 pro 38 dual cam?.How is the draw cycle,smooth or harsh?What about IBO speed? Might have a line on a used one.

CAJUN, my P38 DC has a touch over 7&quot; brace. The draw is actually easier than my Pat DC. By that I mean pulling the same weight, it feels like it's actually less. I wouldn't say smoother, though. Let off is 65%. I chrono'd mine. 55#, 29&quot; draw, 368 gr arrow = 278. 305 gr arrow = 300. The birth cert states 309 at 61#, 28&quot; draw. I figured this is 318 with my 29&quot; draw.

Thanks for the info. Is that this years model? How does the 38 balance in the hand and what are you using for stabilization (your sighting option might be nice to know too)? Also, have you tuned the bow to the different arrow combinations you've listed and drawn any conclusions as to how accurate each is (for you and your ability) in comparison?

Chief, sorry I didn' t see this post. My P38 is a 2001 model. I like the balance, pretty neutral. I have a 7 1/2" Isolator stab and a Sure Loc Challenger sight. I' ve shot Redline 460s and 410s. Though well within the chart recommendations, they proved to be underspined for my setup. I have the best luck with PSE 300 Extremes. They group much better past 30 yds. The light arrows were 2-39 ACC Hyperspeeds. I just shot them through the chrono to check speed. They weren' t mine, and I didn' t ask to shoot them to see how they did. I may try some PSE 200s. These should weigh about the same as the ACCs. Using the PSE 300s I shot my first ever 300 5 spot round and scored a 297, 37X. I' m averaging 282 in a 3D indoor league with the same setup, also shooting my Pat Dually a couple times. I consider myself an average archer. When I' m on, the P38 is deadly accurate. When I' m not, it helps me get through it.
