What bow are you ordering in '03 and why?

Curious to see what you're all ordering for your 2003 hunting bow and why you're selecting that bow.

I am probably ordering a Mathews LX 70lbs 80% letoff, Trophy Ridge Matrix site, and a Trophy Taker Shaky Hunter rest (assuming I can install this rest). I have a Mathews MQ1 and it fits me very well.

RE: What bow are you ordering in '03 and why?

I have a Bowtech Extreme VFT coming & will be putting a GKF Hunter Elite fall away on it with a Toxonics Aluminator sight. I will use either a combo of a Bowtech Quiver & a Vista hip quiver. Stabilizer may be a GKF Tranquilizer or some other high shock reducing stabilizer such as the SVL. Arrows will be Vapors in the matching camo to the bow with 4" Duravanes.

dhacker,

If I get a new one, it will be the Merlin Max 3000.
I like Merlin best because of the craftsmanship, looks, and feel.

Frank,

You should get a Merlin also.
If you do, you will never look back.
Even the Mathews guys at my local range acknowledge my Merlin bows are superior after seeing and handling them.
The owner of the shop, who pushes Mathews, said my Merlin bows are the most beautiful he has ever seen.
Hey, you asked for a suggestion.

That is the question I keep asking myself. What bow are you going to get??? The more I read, the more confused I get. Got to get out of this office and shoot some. But when and what???

My new bow, which should be here in a month or two is an OL Adcock, 66 inch, 30.50 draw, 55#, gaboon ebony riser, tonkin cane limbs, bright red chakte kok inlays.

RE: What bow are you ordering in '03 and why?

Hmm…

Right now I don’t foresee ordering anything. I’m very happy with my #1 bow and plan on keeping it for a long time (that is for me at least ..hee hee)

My bow budget is basically nil this year. BUT, if I can sell a bow or two, I very well might order a good lefty as I’ve wanted one for a while now. Some of the models I’ve been thinking about have been the Bowtech Patriot SC & P40 wheelie, Hoyt UltraTec or RazorTec, Mathews Legacy, and the Martin Scepter III SE (shot the Cougar SE, neat little bow!). Nothing else this year really floats my boat. I had considered the AR bows, but after talking with a few people who handled them at the show, I’ve kinda crossed them off my list (just for me personally, nothing necessarily bad about them)

I will say Saturday I got hold of a right hand Hoyt UltraTec with Spiral cam to play with for a few minutes, and if I had the money available I would have bought it right then and there without batting an eyelash (I had to talk myself out of opening up my wallet and pulling out the credit card. It would have been certain death once the Mrs. Got the statement!) It’s been quite awhile since I was that impressed with a bow right out of the box. I’m officially changing my stance on the spiral cam (hear that Frank?) while I still do not care for it on the SuperTec model, on the UltraTec I was thoroughly surprised: very smooth to draw even at 76 Lbs peak weight, one of the quietest bows I’ve ever heard, and excellent speed. A very stable, smooth shooting bow.

BobC019-65,

OL makes a nice Long Bow but it's not as pretty as my Trails End Medicine Point Recurve with Bocote riser Cocobolo stripe and pierce points.:)
Just kidding, OL makes a fine bow. I'm sure you will love it. Sounds like a pretty one.
Is it the ACS ?

Got a LX ordered, gonna try the Trophy Taker on it. Never used one before but you guys have talked me into it. I'll be staying with my Bodoodle Pro 500 if it doesn't satisfy me and definetely staying with the Spot Hog sight.

BobCo19-65 01-28-2003 11:46 AM

RE: What bow are you ordering in '03 and why?

Sag, I opted to go with a classic design with clear glass. I will wait and see over time how the ACS holds up and maybe pick one up at a latter date. I'm really not into carbon or veneers, and want keep the bow as "wooden" as possible. I like to see the actual wood used in the bows, so having something cover it up like a carbon back, or veneer is not for me. All of the stains used will also be clear. Although it is tuff to pick up in pictures, even the tonkin cane has a pattern, which is accented with the correct stain.

JeffB, yes, those are some fine looking longbows, and I'm sure they shoot just fine.

I don't plan on ever buying another new bow. Trad bows, I'll make my own. Compounds, I'd find an old one that I like and give it a thorough overhaul. There are very few bows on the market these days that I'd actually consider buying, and none at all that have a price tag I'm willing to pay.

RE: What bow are you ordering in '03 and why?

So far I'll own a new Merlin Max 3000 and Lite Storm 2, the Max will probably be had with the new Rapid cam 2 twin cams on it, and the Lite Storm 2 will have the new Omega Hybrid and may become my new 3D bow. I'm also waiting on a Kodiak Bowlogic 32 that I was very impressed with at the ATA show to run through the mill.

Who knows what else, have to wait and see as the year unfolds. Oh yeah, on an accessory note, I'm going to run those new Crimson Talon broadheads through the mill too, to see how they hold up and if the hype has any merit. Pinwheel 12

Plan on buying a Bowtech Pro 40 dually for 3Ds. When the wife isn't looking I would like a Patriot for hunting. I like the speed of the Pro 40 dually, the ATA of 38", and I can get it in my draw length. Will be shooting my Trap Door rest with a Toxonics Hybrid V sight with 9 inch bar. A 10" X-ring stabilizer that I have been shooting for years unless it's to heavy or doesn't balance right. Then I'll experiment.

As long as kids are having fun shooting, I don't care if I shoot bad

Ive got it narrowed down to either a Razortec or an Ultratec, if I decide to go Ultratec then I'll have to decide spiral cam or not. Ive got some time my proshop wont have one for 6 weeks.
I need to decide of the extra 4.5 inches of ATA is that much of a factor and if so, if the spiral has any disadvantages besides adjustability.

I've got my 03 bow on order. Hopefully I'll have it within the next 4 weeks or so.
Going with the ultimate 2 cam bow. Have looked long & hard for the best overall 2 cam bow IMO & found that the Bowman Accu-Riser fits just about everything I look for in a 2 cam bow.
These bows absolutely are awesome in regards to quality & overall shooting qualities.
Going with the New Bowman Accu-Riser II, if possible it's better then the original Accu-Riser.
Love looking forward to the new Toys !!

Pinwheel,

Just curious, is there a website on the Bowlogic bows ?

Nevermind, did a search and found it. Interesting design. Looks very light in weight

RE: What bow are you ordering in '03 and why?

I have no plans to buy anything new, but for other reasons than Arthur.

I have put together a bow that PA Bowhuntr called "Frankenstein" and it is faster, a little quieter, etc. than the pair of bows that are really good enough that I need no others. I was just curious as to how it would come out. The brace height is a little lower than i would like, but it seems to be shooting well enough now that I have creep tuned it. If it turns out that I can't shoot it that well at longer ranges, I will just go back to what I have been using. All the speed, accuracy, and quiet I need in a bow.

Avoid the inevitable until it is absolutely unavoidable!

It's funny that no one has mentioned the new AR Archery Research 31 yet! I just ordered it today, that's what's going to be hanging in my room this season.
Short axle to axle, light, deep brace and nil vibration, smooth draw and it just look's darn awsome .

I am sticking with Hoyt again this year. A new UltraTec, and a RazorTec for hunting.

There are so many great bows out there now it is hard to choose which one. If I stick with Hoyt, I only need to decide which HOYT!

If I venture away from hoyt.....um, mathews, martin, merlin, bowtech, etc.

Amazing all the good equiptment being produced these days!

I'd love to see you do a review on the LX, but the draw only goes to 30. And you know everytime you ask that, I've got to suggest a Mathews it's sort of a tradition now. Hell if you would say yes that would be like 6 more weeks of winter. LOL

I was fortunate, I didn't have to order the two bows I bought this year. Both pro shops had my size and fit on the shelf.

I purchased an '03 Hoyt Cybertec with an HHA Opitimizer Lite sight, Quicktune 3000 rest, Bohning detach quiver, and doinker 4" stabilizer. I'll be shooting PSE Carbon Force 300 Dominator that weigh in at 380 grains.

I also bought an '03 Bowtech EX VFT, HHA Optimizer Lite Sight, Golden Key Futura rest, Quikee detach quiver, no stabilizer. I think a stabilizer on this bow will make it a bit front heavy. I'll be using the same arrows mentioned above with the Hoyt.

The reasoning behind these two choices was that I rarely find a bow that (a) I like the looks of, and (b) it feels good in my hands.

Both of these bows are light, fast, quiet, and with a reasonably short brace height, 6 5/8 on both bows, believe it or not, their pretty forgiving. Maybe its because I'm used to shooting my MagnaTec with the same brace height.

Hoyt Havoctec (Last years model). Didn' t order, purchased off the shelf at my local pro shop. First bow I' ve bought since 1968. Had one given to me about 8 yrs ago and decided it was time for something new. I liked the way the Hoyt felt in my hands, and I liked the way it shot. Of course I couldn' t beat the price either.
