Default DC PAT: First Impressions

Hey all,

Got my DC PAT today...28" draw, peaks at 71 Lbs. I'm just going to go over some points...a review will follow in the coming weeks

1) Fit and Finish was great. Bow was tight.

2) The bow balances MUCH better than the 2K2 PAT I-cam.

3) Bow is noticeably lighter. It's almost too light for me, but then again I prefer a heavier bow.

4) New grip ROCKS! Very thin. nice smoothed and rounded edges. For someone with relatively small hands like me, it's excellent.

5) Looks like I got a WC string, but honestly I don't know what the other 02 strings look like, so I cannot say for sure.

6) No cable tuners. While a nice feature, I'm not really concerned if I get them. Bow was in perfect synch right out of the box (at least from a feel standpoint..I don't have access to a hootershooter or other tuning machine)

7)Draw force curve is stout..hits peak early and smoothly, and flattops all the way to the end of the draw...drops into the valley smoothly as well. No bumps and does not build up the last couple of inches like the I-cam does. Draw length felt a tad long, but I did not measure it yet..i'd say 1/4 to 3/8", at the very most 1/2". Brace height measure 7 3/4" exactly on my bow.

8) Valley is VERY narrow. If you have ever had an inkling that your draw length might be a tad too long, this bow will prove you right. However after a rough set-up with my string loop, I had no problems whatsoever with the bow wanting to take off while shooting..it locks in nice because my draw is dead-on. Make sure you buy the right draw length. Order another set of modules if you are not sure.

9) Stock BT hush kit..pair of silencers on the string, pair on the cables, vibrablocks at the forks, and a cableguard muffler

10) Shooting 400 grain arrows the bow was a little loud. Nothing crazy, but louder than my 2K3 Cybertec. I plan on putting Limbsavers on it so I'm not worried about it. Also see #13 below

11) Very little recoil. In fact I'd say the (2002) PAT SC has more..or perhpas it's just a different feel...the dual cams produce a more even feel as the string returns to brace.

12) I felt absolutely no vibe/shock in my hands when the bow was set-up with my trusty sorbotek stabilizer. I did not shoot it without a stabilizer.

13) My chrono is toasted so it will be awhile before I can chrono it. Spec sheet said IBO of 314, I don't doubt it. I can hardly see the arrows.

I ran a 465 grain Terminator Select through it too, and it was still really moving along. It was punching through my fairly new Morell Bag (need to buy another target to set behind it with this bow). Noise level was pretty good with that arrow. I hate to make a guess but I'd say that arrow was shooting in the 270's if I had to bet on it. I suspect I will be setting it up with an arrow in that weight range. Probably an ACC Kinetic 3-60.

14) Don't shoot at the same spot if there is already an arrow in the target..nuff said.

15) The riser despite the reflex does not feel "torque-y" at all.

You longer draw guys are really gonna have a hellion on your hands..buy plenty of arrow lube.

The only thing I think that could be improved is the noise level. It's not as loud as my 98 Darton Maverick was (which had limbsavers and the same stab), but it's not a Mathews Legacy either. I suspect after I get the Sims stuff on it, and fletch up a few AC Kinetics the point will be moot (or mute..hee hee)

Good Job Jeff, glad you got her. better late than never

You are correct, that draw length thing will bite ya<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

As far as noise its hard to tell, The darn arrow hits the target so fast that it makes the bow sound like a rifle<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I have to go outside and shoot some 70 yders just so I can hear the bow before the arrow slams into the target<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

The pro shop said mine had WC strings also, they are brown and black. They just don't have the look of my other WC's but I guess they could be.

The fact that the bow really has no shock or recoil at the speeds it shoots is amazing to me.

Good luck to ya

He is not on the bowtech web site, or in the phone books<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

his number is 631-924-2204

If the Pat DCs were bird crap, I'd have one on my head. They're landing all around me. Mine is coming soon, I hope.
Thanks for heightening the tension, Jeff.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Jeff,

Got your email , thanx. Happy to see you got your Xmas present,<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> I know this question will sound dumb to some, but in reference to the draw length, how are you or anyone else measuring it? String (in nock) to the farthest part of the grip, like measuring brace height? So many different ways of measuring draw length.<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle> I like the sounds and looks of the grip (from picsI have seen). The Draw force curve sounds good as well, but when you mentioned the valley being narrow, is it like a Mathews type valley (which is why I dont shoot Mathews bows any longer, NOT BASHING them) or more like the Z cam (we love so much) or the CPS system? ( I know it is not like the Z cams but had to throw that in, lol. What weight stabilizers are you all finding balances it perfect?

Jeff, what are you doing with 400+ grain arrows? <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I wish some of these places near me would get some in!!!<img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>

Best of luck with it Jeff ~~~

Jeffb I felt that my 28&quot; felt a little long as well. But the more I thought about it the nore I think it is the grip, they thinned it out. Anyway one of the techs at the proshop said I did look stretched out at fulldraw with the 28&quot; bow so I am ordereing one with a 27.5&quot; draw now. I'll have to wait a few more weeks to get mine.
