I spent quite a bit of time looking at various arrows, point weights, and fletching options on my On Target! software for a heavier arrow that's properly spined. The only realistic option I have, it seems, are aluminum arrows. The carbon options are way too stiff, at least according to the program. My issue is which aluminum size to choose. I'm trying to get 380-440grains total weight with a 25" shaft (will go 26" if need be) and 125 grain tips and 4" feather fletch. My setup is 52lbs (56lb bow was sold), 25" drawlength, Parker Buckshot is the bow, and will probably use 2 bladed Magnus Stingers or Steelforce. Thanks in advance

Not that there is anything wrong w/ aluminum, but there are heavy carbons out there. A beman Black Max 400 weighs in at just over 11 gpi, which in finished arrow weight would be in the 390's -low 400's.......

To be honest, I'm not sure what aluminum to use that would work.....You don't need a really stiff arrow, in fact the 400's are probably a bit overkill......Maybe a 2213 would be in there......I'll have to check out the weight on those......

Gold Tip 3555's in a camo shaft will put you right around 370 grains and be spined right for you.

1916 or 2013 will work fine for you. Only problem I can think of with them is, when you get into those sizes durability becomes a serious issue. You'd probably be better off going with a heavy carbon or composite arrow like the Black Max or Terminator Lite. The weight will be very comparable between these two and the aluminums, right around 400 grains.

Just ran the Black Max's thru my program. If I go 26" with feathers and a 125 grain tip, the spine will be a little stiff. FOC about 14.4%. This is definitely one to consider. Thanx guys.

I would go with the 2013 with 125 grain points gets you in the middle of the green zone and the total weight should be in the high 380

Alright, I found some errors I was making in the software program. Those errors were probably why I was getting shaft selections like 2016's and 2114's and everyone else has 2013's. It's good practice to double check your work.

Carbons are ideal to do what you want. Stiff is good! Add more weight to the tip to weaken the spine. The added advantage is a very high FOC and increased total weight. It's easy to weaken arrows. Make them longer and add weight to the tip (insert weight are great for this). The increased FOC may even get you into the "extreme" zone, which is great for increased penetration.

For instance, take a gold tip 3555 and add a 50 grain insert weight with your 125 gr head. You can fine tune the arrow length and/or draw weight to get it working perfect. It would be approx 400 gr and 19% FOC. This is just one example. There are dozens of other carbons that will work also.

If you want an even heavier arrow, you can go to the 5575s and add even more tip weight, to end up with an even higher FOC and total arrow weight. In this instance, you'd have to use a longer arrow also.
