RE: How to tie in nocksets and a D-loop
thanks for the post... My loop broke that the shop had put on and instead of going back, spending 10-20bucks there it costed me a whole 2 dollars worth of string. Even got the loop shorter which made drawing easier and shoots better if you ask me.

RE: How to tie in nocksets and a D-loop
I've tied string loops for a while now but first time I ever tied on nock points. Mine seem to be tight and uniform although I didn't use any dental floss to bring the thread back through under itself. Seemed to work ok without the floss. But I want to take this opportunity to thank Greg for posting this great information. Couldn't have tied the nocks without it. Good job Greg!!!!

Tie in a nockset and D-Loop
EXCELLENT depiction of a previously abstract concept - Thank You!
. Successful effort on my 1st try YehHah... I too ended up removing the tied D-loop and burning the second ball end off bow to assure that I did not burn (another) string set. . For future consideration I measured it and I actually used a 4" length measured after the melted tip (no Flame) ball ends were fashioned. . I used a brass nock to define the high mark of the nocking point with the D-loop below the nock and above the arrow. The lower leg was pulled up snug below the arrow as I pulled it tight with my release and opposing hand followed eventually by a few dozen test shots to settle the string. I also re-tied my peep using a variation of your nocking point technique which seems to be working very well indeed. Knowledge is confidence and you have given this community a gift that MANY ARE SURE TO APPRECIATE. Thank you! |
Good deal! Thanks Greg

Thanks for your time and effert, it will prabably help me fix my bow.
|
Thankyou, it's very helpfull!
|
Greg,
What diameter is the nock point thread? Thank! |
Nice informative thread Greg! precisely because of this information, I am on this forum. I think the best way to show it and I get it. :hail:

Great info! Thanks for the time and effort to post!
|
Great great post! My question is this, can this be used with brass nocks intead of tied ones? is there a advantage to the tied nocks over the brass?
|
Sure you could, but brass nocks are considered heavy... hence the tied-in nocksets.
Plus, they look way cooler too. ;) There's also the fact that by tying in your nocksets, you control the length of the top and bottom. Notice how evenly the release pulls on the D-loop by having my lower nockset approximately twice the length of the top one. |
Wow I even amazed myself
Thanks, Greg. I know you posted this years ago, but what a web tool. I am a life long sailor and archer and I have never seen a knot tying sequence explained so well. You should do Power Point presentations for a living! I tied one on and it came out perfect. I found one little imperfection in the way the line melted just so I would have an excuse to cut it off and redo it! Then I went and got my sons bow and proceeded to cut his loop off much to his horror. Tied a third one on to his bow perfectly. Kudos fellow Archer! Happy Hunting.!

Great Post!!!
I do however think your draw length is a little long! |
With hunting season around the corner I thought it prudent to put this back up top.
|
Really good job on the site, Thanks for guide!
|
Good stuff Greg. You promised and came through. That took some time, I'm sure. Thanks.
