what do i need to do
ok ay 20 yds my shots are ok at 30 yds you cant say ok and at 40 yds theyre going 4 inches right....what is wrong and do i need to do for my setup...and also i was looking at my bow today and noticed that the pins arent even aligned with the string ,arrow....if i allign my pins to the arrow and string they[arrow]shoot left....im confused can someone help me on what to do...i was thinkin that maybe i might have to move my rest to the left and then reallign my pins..but i dont know i am lost
|
RE: what do i need to do
My pins are never aligned with my string or arrow, could be hand torque, form lots of things. As long as your getting good arrow flight it shouldnt matter. IfI were you I would try dialing in at 40 yards and then shooting at 20. Ive noticed sometimes if Im a little left or right at 20 it really shows up at 40 yards. If thats not it you could need to adjust your form. Any flaw in your form will really show up at longer distances.

RE: what do i need to do
I am having the same problem as you.
My plans are to start over. Center tune the rest, then shoot through paper and see what is happening. Good Luck! |
RE: what do i need to do
kidd
I said it before andI will say it again.Your centershot seems to be off,the pictures you posted and all the following info you have given are leading me to believe it more and more. Sure, there are many other things from contact, spine and torque that will make the problem worse. I know you said you weren't able to comprehend the linkI posted last time but I will give it to you again and maybe if you are wanting to learn how to tune, you might want to give some of these items a try. What do you have to lose?;) http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=2020182 |
RE: what do i need to do
yea i know tfox ill read your thingy ma gig but for sure i have to see the bow shop this weekend
|
RE: what do i need to do
What are you needing the shop to do? The centershot is a simple fix(usually). You just move your rest in or out.
|
RE: what do i need to do
Yep, I think TFOX is on to it. Reset your center shot. Then go to one of the many tuning methods (paper - a good starting point, walk back - probably best for your application, broadhead - my personal favorite...)

ORIGINAL: KodiakArcher Yep, I think TFOX is on to it. Reset your center shot. Then go to one of the many tuning methods (paper - a good starting point, walk back - probably best for your application, broadhead - my personal favorite...) My link addresses bare shaft, paper, walk back, broadhead and group tuning. No long explanations for each so if you need more detailed instructions just ask, there are MANY that are willing to help. The easton tuning guide is a must read for someone starting out.It is filled with knowledge. Some of it more usefull than other. www.eastonarchery.com http://www.eastonarchery.com/downloads.asp |
RE: what do i need to do
Absolutely ! Reset your centershot , BUT FIRST if your using a shoot through prong style rest ,double check your knock alignment ,if one or 2 of your knock's is out just a bit it may be as simple as straightening your knock's, and that's a real easy fix, don't ever glue in your knock's if they're loose ,just buy new one's .

RE: what do i need to do
yea i read eastons archery its just that i think im makin it more complicated than what it really is.....no cus dont i need to make sure it is allighned rite like with a lazer sight deal and a leveling kit what do you mean in or out
nubo im using a wb |
RE: what do i need to do
In or out.In toward the riser and out away from it.
|
RE: what do i need to do
A laser isn't necessary and they should only be used by those that are experienced enough to understand the possitives and negatives of them.
You can usually eyeball the centershot. If you nock an arrow and look down at the bow from the top(above),you should see the arrow running pretty close to center of the stabilizer to just outside of it.If it it is way inside or outside of it,then adjust it untill they are fairly close. Then you are ready to do some tuning. |
RE: what do i need to do
Your pins in a perfect world should be aligned with your string . Your string at full draw should be straight up and down , thats what a level is for . When you get those things acomplished , walkback tuneing should give you a good centershot , and for me [a hunter] , broadhead tuning is the end all .
|
RE: what do i need to do
ok but i hate to give yall any trouble or anything but for me i think it is best that i just go to the bow shop because i dont want to wind up loosing any more arrows.....i dont know why it just seems to difficult for me understandin this center shot thing...usually i pik things up pretty fast
|
RE: what do i need to do
Most shops can't or won't do any more than eyeball the centershot for you.
Maybe you should take it to them and let them explain what they are doing if they adjust the rest. The fine tuning should be done by you.Jump in with both feet, then you will most likely see things starting to make since.Just matk the rest so you can always come back to the original settings. |
RE: what do i need to do
so what would you rec. if im shooting right at 40 yds should i move my rest left and then work my way down to 10 yds or should i do the opposite.....10-40...so tune my bow at 40 yds adn then 30-20-10
|
RE: what do i need to do
TFOX is right on. The best thinganyone that shoots a bow can do is tolearn how to fine tune your own bow. To me, I get a great sense of accomplishment when I've tinkered around with my set-up and am getting perfect bullet holes, then getting a good vertical line-up by walk-back tuning from 20 to 50 yds. Now just need to work out that last 1-1/2" of broad-head tuning (trying this year to not give up and repositioning my pins to where the broadhead****), I've got all spring and summer to get field points and broad heads to hit the same.
|
RE: what do i need to do
Has anyone here ever tried a method called french tuning. It would almost be the same as walkback in a way. You get the center shot close and shoot at 3 yards and adjust your sight to hit right on at 3 yards. You then get to 60 yards and adjust your sight to hit right on at 60, after this the only adjustment you do at 3 yards is to the rest and the only adjustment you make at 60 is with the sight. You keep going back and forth until all are aligned at both 60 and at 3 yards. This should put you right on provided that your second axis has been set.

RE: what do i need to do
That's it elk,get him even more confused than he already is.:D
I have heard of it but never done it. I think he needs to stay away from the 60 yard stuff right now but he could do the same thing at 30 or 40. Walk back should start at 20.You can then shoot at 10 yards Using the 20 yard pin. Then repeat at 30 yards and still use the 20 yard pin.If you are confident and comfortable with 40,then do the same there. If the arrows hit to the left,as you increase the distance, move the rest right.Or the opposite if they are hitting to the right.Do this untill you get a vertical drop. I like to put a piece of tape on the target, use a plum to make sure the tape is perfectly straight up and down. I will shoot for groups after thiscomplete. You can read about this method in my link. |
RE: what do i need to do
oh ok thanks guys for stickin wit me i think i am actually starting to get it......
things i need to know use 20 yd pin if arrows are going left at farther distances move rest right strip of tape and make sure it is straight vertical drop?what is that but shooting order should start at? like 10,20,30,40...or 20,10,20,30,40 1 other thing do you aimlets say all in thecenter of the target of course aiming for the tape to and as yo get farther the arrow just gets lower than the before shots? |
RE: what do i need to do
Kidd, do you shoot dead on at 10, 20, an then it gets worse at 30 an then bad at 40. If so it could be in hand torque, is all of your sights lined up straight vertical?
|
RE: what do i need to do
kidd, you pretty well have it.Just jump in now and start shooting.Vertical drop=dropping in a straight line downward.
Even with hand torque, you should be able to get a bow to group.Provided it is a fairly consistant torque. kidd has had a few questions over the past couple weeks and posted pictures of a group at 20 yards. All questions and the group looked like the centershot was out to me.Horizontal groups instead of circular. |
RE: what do i need to do
I would be willing to bet there are a few form and technique issues also. You might want to do some searches on formand/or post pictures for us and really concentrate on not hitting the trigger but really squeezing it off SLOOOOWLY.
|
RE: what do i need to do
tfox go to huntingfootage.com and then to miscellaneous videos then look for one that says form ground blind shooting......it has some video of my from on the first video and yeah hand torque might be one of the probs but i honestly think that something is wrong with the center shot say is i concentrate real hard at 20 yds like this past time i got all 3 arrows touching then the next they were all in a 4inch circle scattered

|
RE: what do i need to do
When Ipractice for longer than about30-45 minutes my shots start to wonder, just a thought.
|
RE: what do i need to do
Not to bad. There were a couple issues I saw but you have a good squeeze and you are not punching the release.GOOD.The 1st thing I see is the release is too long. You are reaching for the trigger and you should be able to wrap your finger over the trigger and squeeze it off.
Also, look at the draw length, you are slightly long but really not too bad.Your bow should have adjustment down so you might want to adjust it down about a 1/2" or more.(might need the shop to do that) Another thing I think I could see was a little too much palm in the grip. You need to try to turn your hand and forearm over before gripping the bow.You are trying too hard for the open hand, your fingers are tense, they should be limp. The arrow in the video looked like it was pointed uphill BUT it could be the angle of the video. It should be close tosquare with the string. The last thing is you might want to take those shiny things out of your ears before you go hunting.;) You looked very comfortable in front of that camera. That is hard to do so you might have a future in it.Keep up the good work. |
RE: what do i need to do
Many times I see this problem on this forum and others if you follow this link your problems will be solved!http://www.eastonarchery.com/downloads.asp
;) |
RE: what do i need to do
yea i know about my release it was a strter 15 dollar one that i got when i just started shooting.....i think my draw i pretty comfortable there if it wa a bit shorter i think i wouldnt feel comfortable...but hopefully next week ill get some arrows shot and see if i can mess around with it a bit...and oh yeah about the being comfortable on camera thats just the way i am i have no shame in my talkin...
|
RE: what do i need to do
Take it for what it is worth,The draw is long.Your cams are adjustable so it is in your best interest to try it shorter.;)
The release needs to be addressed if you want to shoot better, along with the draw length.I believe you can take it apart and cut the the threaded rod and then rebend it to get it shorter. |
RE: what do i need to do
im gonna lower it right now and see how it feels im pretty sure im goin to feel uncomfortable though and as for the release i will try to mess with it in a little while also
|
RE: what do i need to do
WRONG ATTITUDE,Go into it with the attitude of giving it a fare chance.
Might take a day or two but I am fairly sure you will feel the difference. You should also see some of the lefts and rights go away.Especially once the release is fixed and the draw is shortened. Try to get the string to go across the corner of your mouth and across the end of your nose. Can't tell from the video if I am seeing a peep or a kisser,YOU MIGHT NEED THE PEEP ADJUSTED when the changes are made. |
RE: what do i need to do
Kidd,
Have you got it headed inthe right direction yet. |
RE: what do i need to do
ishortened da dl and it felt 2 short way 2 short ..... .. and as for the release i tried 2 make it smaller but i couldnt figure it out
|
RE: what do i need to do
It felt too short because you are not used to it.Compare you to the picture I posted,He is a pro and a coach, his is right on.
You haven't given it enough time but do whatever you want. |
RE: what do i need to do
yea tfox and look at his left arm my arm bends alot compared 2 his .... .,
|
RE: what do i need to do
That is irrelavant.
There are a couple thoughts on a bent arm or not,I am looking at your anchor on your face. Your hand is off your face,NO SOLID ANCHOR.Even if/when you shorten your release,it will still not be SOLID on your face. You need atleast 3 good points of reference and you have NONE. Most will use the jaw bone for the release hand, the tip of their nose on the string and the corner of their mouth. This should also allow for some tension for bone to bone contact and will allow you to use proper back tension to fire the release. Like I said earlier,it might mean a changewith the peep but that shouldn't be that big of a deal. |
RE: what do i need to do
ok so i shortened the dl and ur sayin when i shoot to put the string on the tip of my nose.....another question that i noticed today when the serving gets loose by the cam does that call for a new string or just for the string to be taken off and be reserved?
|
RE: what do i need to do
Chances are it is a cheaper quality string and that is part of the reason the serving is coming loose but I would say that just getting it reserved would be sufficient.
When you can,get a set of quality aftermarket strings, such as the ones Gibblet makes.I personally wouldn't spend the money for Winners Choice, especially on a hunting bow. |
RE: what do i need to do
how much are the one that gibblet makes ....and so far i found out that this is what im goin to need......muzzy zero effect rest...truglo sight for low light condotions..[reccomendations]....fix the string and or replace it with one of gibblets...new release looking into sctts little goose....different peepsight..total about 300 dollars...and then new arrows.....man i got to start working
