RE: I'm taking a poll..All replies welcome...
Well, I am a rookie (2 year) and I'm going to be buying a new bow this winter. I don't know hardly anything about the technical side of archery and I am leaning towards a pro shop. I have been to one that was a hoyt dearler. He will let you draw the bows and shoot them on a pratice range he has. He also has some other bows there that other people are selling (used). I checked out E-Bay and thought about maybe buying one through there but I'm afraid I'll run into more problems just trying to save a few bucks.

I have never done it before because I never bought a bow that hasn't been unveiled. I have to say, I have been a loyal Mathews shooter for 6 years but have ordered the new DC Patriot sight unseen due to all the talk from BTS and JeffB. I only draw 60# for hunting, it tends to get cold here in Northern Illinois in late December and January and anything more gets to be tough after sitting that long in the cold. I am VERY excited if what BTS told me on another thread is close to being accurate, that with 60# @ 29" draw and approx. 360gr arrow I can get 300fps. That will make a great one pin huntin bow for next year. Heck depending on when it shows up in January, I actually might be able to hunt a week or so with it if I like it better than my SQ2. Here's hoping it's all it's been talked up to be.

YEP!
The last 2 were that way!!! (Pro-38 & Patriot)
If the guys on THIS BOARD have a favorable opinion on it then I wouldn't hesitate.
My pro-shop isn't large enough to stock all the high-end bows I want to shoot. (but we're working on it!!!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>)
Aim small miss small

Yep.

In all seriousness...I would do a little bit of both. I would look through the posts here and on other forums to get somewhat of a good idea in terms of which models are popular and people seem to be happy with...then I would proceed to several pro shops to try them out to see which one fits me the best.
So, how about it...do I pass? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I've done it and will continue to do it. I follow what a lot of folks on here have to say and then contact my pro shop and get there opinion. Since all my measurements are on file I just wait for the finished product to be delivered.

i'll always go and pick it up and draw it back at least, if not shoot it before i go and buy something. it has to feel right in my hand and just has to be comfortable. anything looks good in a picture but its different when you see it in person and pick it up. seeing if its balanced in weight, how heavy it actually is, lot of factors. so i'm always going to see it in person before i buy it.

If the new bowtech pictures would be posted soon, it wouldn't be sight unseen!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>
