Helical Help?
#1
Im looking to buy a rt. helical fletching jig. I have a question about degrees. Should i use 3 - 120 vanes or something else?? Ive always used straight fletchings so any advice is appreciated. Also which jig should i get, im looking at the Jo-jan and Blitzenburg.
Thanks

I have the Bitz and it works very well. I'm not sure of the reason, but the Bitz helical clamps are different from left to right. The left is like 11% and the right is only 4% or so. I can't remember the exact #'s. I use left because that is the one I have. No problems with fletching or clearance with Blazers or other 3" vanes with a shoot through. I saw you other post, and I have one bow with the QAD, and the other has a Biscuit. Full helical Blazers or 3" Vanetecs seem to work very well. The Bitz should come with a 3-120 degree nock adapter, with the cock vane out. Of course, you can turn the nock once you get them fletched for clearance. Bitz also makes a separate 120 degree nock receiver that has the cock vane down or up to match the way most guys shoot with a Biscuit or drop away. The standard nock receiver also has a 75/105 degree 4 fletch setting. I really like that for hunting. No way you can nock an arrow incorrectly, and good broadhead control.
BTW, very nice buck you are posing with!

Helical direction only is important to traditional archers who shoot off the shelf, as the helical direction of choice (left helical for rt. handed shooter) is to get fletch clearance from your hand. You can shoot either with a compound bow no matter if you are left handed or right handed. Left helical does tend to loosen the points on impact a little bit more, but my arrows with right offset end up with loose points sometimes too.
