I was playing around at bowjackson, building some arrow combinations to check out weights and foc, and when I have to select the point insert for the arrow, the choices are listed as HO, AL and C. I assume AL is aluminum and C is carbon, but what the heck is HO? It is the only insert option for the 3-39 and below shaft sizes, and when selected, it's apparently pretty heavy. What is is?
When you order ACCs I assume they come with unibushings installed and inserts. But what inserts? Do you get to choose? Which do you choose?

H-O is a "half out"..it sticks out about 1/2" but is the same diameter as the shaft..it's for strength at the tip on such a small diameter shaft...
Unibushings are pre-installed....
Generally, G-nocks and inserts/HO's are NOT included in the price of ACC's..however places like Bass Pro include them with the purchase..in that case, I beleive it is stated in the catalog whether the 3-49's come with an insert or HO since that is the only shaft that has that as an "option" (HO or standard Insert)
C=carbon...not reccomended....carbon inserts are not durable...

Jeff is correct, ACC's come with the uni's installed, but come with no inserts. ACC's were originally designed for one of Eastons' parabolic points. The original ACH was the only AC shaft designed for hunting and that came with inserts. That shaft has been discontinued for some time, however Easton now offers the AC Kinetic 2, which is an AC shaft in the same spine ranges as the ICS.(340, 400, 500 etc) They have the supernocks that fit inside like an ICS, but they have the aluminum core tube like a ACC, which will help as far as loosening and spliting goes. They also have more "beef" (more kenetic energy due to higher Grain-per-inch) for increased penetration. I have not as yet tried these shafts out personally, but feel they may have benefits and will try them in the future. I personally will want the "G" nocks and uni's, as I feel they are more precise and I like the smaller nock when using a loop.
Nothing wrong with the half-outs, I've also taken animals in the past with 3-39's with half-outs. In fact, we used to make our own for 3-39's out of 1916 inserts and a piece of 1916 shaft! quite crude but it worked well, we ground down the 1916 inserts to fit inside the ACC 3-39, and match-weighed them. Then we installed (hot melted) a 3/4"" long piece of 1916 shaft to the insert, then epoxied the insert into the ACC. The 1916 shaft piece fit right over the 3-39 like a glove. Gave us extra FOC, AND extra strength by covering the entire tip of the shaft itself. (sort of like an outsert)

So anyway, yes, you'll need to buy inserts, and I agree, don't buy the carbon inserts as they are much too wimpy. Good shooting, Pinwheel 12
