Default A few ?'s.

Hey guys I just have a noob question or two. I just bought a powertech from my proshop. All he did was take it to the press install a few things, ect. Than he helped me sight it in so i'm shooting my top pin at 10 & 20. He didn't do the paper thing or chrono it.So I'm wondering how you tune a bow and what tuning really is. I mean my cams turn at the same time and the bow is deffinatly accurate with Field point's.

Now my second question. Odds are i'll be going turkey hunting soon and I want to get some broadheads that will work for turkey, deer, and bear this way I can buy everything I need now while i have money. I don't have time to sight my bow in with new broadheads so I want to go mechanical because generally they'll group with fields no matter what, correct? My only fear is I wont have enough power for them. I'm shooting the powertech with 55# draw and a 29" drawlenth. My arrows are beman max 4 and 100 g points so I guess with everything my arrow weight is 420ish. I will be able to test shoot my bow with broadheads though so I wont be shooting blind.

By the way anyone know how many fps i'll get with my setup? I'm guessing in the 250 range, right?

Thanks a lot guys

You probably have plenty of power with 55lbs, but I wouldn't skimp on the tuning even if you're gonna shoot mechanicals, you will shoot better with a properly tuned bow NO MATTER WHAT.

How would you know if a bow was tuned? Like I said I really don't know a lot about compound bows as I just got back into archery after 3 years.

i just got a powertec a month or so ago and love it . thats about all my bowshop did to . i had to ask the to check the speed . at 69# 28" draw 355gr. arrow was 284 so i'd say your shooting a little faster than you think . Yeah, there nice bows. Awsome link man, thanks. It isn't even like the bow is shooting bad, it's amazing. I'm just a little worried that the Bh's wont group good. I guess i'll go to my range and see if they have any heads I can test out to see what works good.

It's hard when you can't shoot them at your range, not in the backyard, and I don't have much time before I start hunting to do it. I just want to make it eaiser for me by trying to find a bh that I won't need to sight in, and which will shoot like my field points.

NyEx, let me explain something to you about archery. If you don't have the time to make sure your equipment is properly tuned to hunting conditions. Then you don't have time to hunt with it, period. I'm not trying to be harsh on you. But the approach your thinking isn't right. You never take a bow into the field until your 100% confident its tuned correctly, and your confident in your abilities with it. Confidence is a major part of proper shooting. You can't question it or your ability, especially at the moment of truth. Your thinking of not having time to tune broadheads & go with some mechanicals to possibly save that problem is the wrong approach all together, and canresult in larger problems, and discouragement for you.
So make the time, or don't go. Shoot your bow & boost your confidence!
Now as far as turkey heads. Mechcanicals happen to be the better heads. Reason being is you want less penetration for turkeys. Its best if your arrow remains in the bird to prevent fly-off. I use NAP Gobblergetters. They are a blunt headed mechcanical. But they are not to be used for any other game. If your looking for a combination head there is a separate piece sold that attaches to the end of the shaft when screw on your broadhead. I can't recall name of it. Game stoppers or something like that But its a small multi bladed piece thats used on small game, as a added punch & to slow penetration.

Some other websights I've used on tuning are: www.bowjackson.com
www.broadheadtests.com

Good luck!!!

Thanks guys, but let me try to explain myself better. My bow right now is shooting perfectly out to my last pin at 40 yards. I'm getting 1 inch groups at 20 and slightly bigger at 30 and 40. I have full confidence in my abilitys and equipment, as I go to my range and practice 2-3 times a week.

All my question was is that I want a broadhead that will shoot like my field points. I really don't have the time to change my sight pins everytime I shoot and hunt so I would like to have some broadheads that would require the least amount of time tooken away from shooting, and hunting.

the only real way is to take the time to shoot several differant ones by the time you've done that you could have reset your pins ( if need be ) for the broadheads of your choice
