I am looking to purchase a game cam. Up to what distance do they take good pictures? Some of the ones in Cabelas say they have a range of 60 to 70 ft. Are any brands better than others?

Depends on which piece of equipment inside the camera that they are talking about.
Usually the 60-70 ft is the range of the actual motion sensor. If the critter sets it off at night, the flash range will not be very far, maybe 20'.
My only experience is with a Non-Typical Deer Cam. I recomend that camera to anybody.

IL BOW MAN is right! At night you might get 20' with your flash if your lucky. During the day you'll get shot further away but the deer are really small. The optimal distance from the camera is about 6' to 12'. Its not hard to get shots like hat, you'll be amazed. I got the Trailtimer Photohunter. Very easy and very crisp clear pictures. I put my camera out July 20th and now have about 140 pictures. I move it every 5 days to a week. This thing is a blast! Its amazing what you learn about the deer.
Have fun! Good Luck!

I have a Camtrakker that I bought about 4 years ago and am very satisified with the quality of the pictures. At night like you say the range is less, I would guess 35 feet. If I have a photo that I need to take a closer look at, I'll scan the image and then zoom in on the area I want. It's amazing what you can see then.

Help me out here twobeards. Is that buck about 15 yards? And that would be 45'. Maybe I misjudge it. I meant to say 20 yards at night.
But it still fun to do know matter how close or far away they are.

I have three cameras now,
[*] PhotoSpy by Highlander Sports[*]Stealth Cam[*] Camtrakker[/list]
The PhotoSpy is a B/W digital camera using flashcards for storage.
I just got the Camtrakker so I don't have any pics from it yet.
You can take a look at the other pics here to compare quality.
