I have never been so frustrated in all my life guys. Here is my problem. I have spent over $200. on arrows, and out of those three dozen I have 5 arrows that group great with my broadheads and the others I might as well throw in the trash. I have purchased the same type of arrow from 3 differant sources thinking that maybe I got a bum batch or ?????

Some of these arrows fly fantastic at 20-30 yards and then are all over the $^&*( place at 40-60 yards. I KNOW that my bow is tuned and tweaked to perfection. So what gives???

My set up is this:
Mathews Legacy 28 inch draw 72 lbs.
Shooting a release
Blackhawk vapors 4000 with muzzy 100grn 4 bld.
Trophy taker drop away and the Trophy ridge matrix

The one thing that I think may be a problem is the fletching. They do not appear to have any offset at all. I ordered two dozen with 4 inch vanes and 1 dozen with 5 inch vanes thinking that might help. (it did not) With this currant setup I have determined that my FOC is about
9.25% I remembur reading that for optimum broadhead flight FOC should be b/w 12-15%.

So I am thinking about stripping all the fletch off and going to feathers with helical. I determined that if I use 4 inch feathers my FOC will be about 12.4%.

Will this help my problem??? HELP ME PLEASE !!!!!!! The season is only a week away. I have total confidance in the current setup to about 30 yards, but where I hunt a 40-60 yard shot is very possible.

mathewsarcher, I think helical fletching and more FOC will definitely help.

I would agree with Phil, but I also had problems with the Blackhawk Vapors. I had a few that would just not group with the others. I went back and got another dozen Carbon Express 300's. These shoot broadhead tipped arrows, fletched field points, and bare shaft arrows pretty much into the same hole at 20 yards with my setup.

Avoid the inevitable until it is absolutely unavoidable!

I personally feel that you may be creeping slightly at the shot if your bow is "completely tuned" and you have that many arrows that will not group. Conventional solos are know to create "flyers" if you are not super-critical with drawlength and anchor point. The heads must be straight as suggested above, but if they are then I doubt the problem is there. Some setups some archers just cannot shoot well, that is the bottom line. Throw another type of head on them just for giggles, and see how they fly, but if you've gone to the extent and trouble you say you have, then I believe it to be something other than the arrows to be honest. I shoot Epsilon's with virtually no offsetting and they all fly great. It took a while, but broadheads and blunts shoot on the same place. I think you need more practice at 40-60 yards.
Honestly.... a 1" gap at 30 yards can be 3-4 inches at 50-60 yards... it's the angle the arrows are flying out. Are your arrows flying out perfectly straight? Any kind of jerking on your side will cause the arrow to be off center. Consider a good stabilizer. If you practice more and more at 40-60 yards, you will become good at it.

FWIW - I had similar issues last year & this year with the drop-away rest I went to 4x4&quot; helical vanes...

My grouping is as good with broadheads as it is with field points - but the groups are off (fp vs bh) by about 2 inches.

You're shooting a drop away - I'd suggest 4 vanes, 4 inches, helical

I think the helical fletching will help your arrow flight. I also think that a 4-6 Degree offset will do the same thing. I would try a 4-6 degree offset with 4&quot; plastic vanes(I use 4&quot; Duravanes), and see where these group. I hope this helps. Be safe.

Thanks to all of you for the feedback. This is why I love this board! All the positive incite that you guys give. I will try the helical for sure. Tonight I tyed on a release loop and had good results at 20 yards. (even tore up 3 arrows fletch!) I will buy the helical clamp since that will be the cheapest thing to do first. Thanks again fellow arrowslingers!
