Need help...inserts pulling out on Gold Tips!!
Wondering what kind of epoxy/glue would be best for inserts on my Gold Tips. I was shooting broadheads with my hunting buddy today and had 3 inserts pull out...with the broadheads on! This has happened repeatedly with the arrows made up at my bowshop the last few months, I think it's time to start doing it myself. I'm leaving for a coues deer hunt in the desert(Arizona) tomorrow and would like to get something to take with me. We will be stopping by PSE in Tucson tomorrow, but I would like to hear from someone on the board first. Any help(ASAP) would be greatly appreciated.

I have been shooting my GoldTip XT's for over a year now. I make my own using hot melt glue to install my inserts. I haven't had one come out yet. I got a hot melt glue pot and the hot melt glue sticks at our local craft store. Good luck on your hunt!

I had the same problem with a few and had to reglue them.
P12- isn't the epoxy permanent? I'm asking in case one wasn't able to tune a head to that particular insert or insert/shaft combination. I guess you make sure that doesn't happen by spinning a good head before they set up?

CHH-
Yes, it is "permanent", but then again everything else is supposed to be with carbons, too. If we need to change a tip, we simply apply heat to the tip itself while pulling on it, and the bond loosens and allows the tip to come out. Much stronger than hot-melt, and if you have your components pre-matched and weighed, you shouldn't have a problem anyway. Good shooting, P12

Now we're getting picky! LOL. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Yes, they are, but when you apply heat to epoxy it is no longer "permanent" either and will break away similar to hot-melt, tho a little tougher. I've used hot melt in the past on carbons but found the epoxy to be much tougher and dependable. I like to build my arrows rugged, I do not worry about "what if's" with them. If they ever do need assistance, even with the epoxy it will be a simple fix. Good shooting, P12

Thanks for the explanation P12 and for not taking offence because I meant no disrespect sir. I was always under the impression that epoxy was permanent, but it makes sense that it has a melting point. So thanks again.
Anyway, I wonder how Two Beards got those broadheads out of his target?
