Default Found buck skull

Hello,

While turkey hunting I stumbled on a really nice 8 point buck skull. Bone dry. I was wondering where in the process to start the European mount? Do I need to put in boiling water to disinfect etc?
Some guidance would be much appreciated.

If the flesh is already gone and the skill is dry you do not want to boil it. You need to bleach it white. Many people de not recommend it but I pain the skulls with Clorox and sit them in the sun. Some folks use peroxide. Or you can asked a taxidermist what they use to bleach a skull and see if you can buy some.

Thank you. I tried to upload a picture of it, but it keeps failing.

I whiten my skulls with some of my wife's creme stuff she uses to highlight her hair. you mix this powder with peroxide (salon type) to form a paste. Then just brush it on the skull and let it set overnight. Rinse well in the morning and it will be as white as snow. CAUTION: put electrical tape around the base of the antlers because it will turn them white also.
