RE: question
REM - First, congratulations! If there taxidermist that you too it to was reputable, then about all we can say is - enjoy! But if you don't like it, let him/ her know, do not pay for it - plain and simple. If they are not giving you what you deserve, then don't pay for it. I always work really hard on the eyes, "the gateway to the soul". If they don't have "life" then you won't ever be happy. As far as a pedestal goes, I only do mine with a base and habitat. If it is a wall pedestal, then you can do all sorts of things. Texas will work, I just hate plaques behind deer. If you have the money ask your taxidermist about adding to it. I did a fence post with broom sage grass and barb wire, cedar tree, etc with a doe mounted on it. Turned out great. If you have the money, you can make a great mount spectacular.

RE: question
It is impossible for me to teach you over the net ,on how to determined if a mount is good, anyways asking a taxidermist to critique anothers Job is always hard, we leave that to Judges in competition.
But do what NCTaxi says if you like it pay for it and enjoy.
Beauty and perfection are in the eye of the beholder.
Congrats.
