You don't mind paying for the work you just don't want to wait for it. Nothing is cheap and nothing is easy!
If your so sick of waitingfor your mounts than why don't you learn taxidermy and do it your self? |

It's funny that you are the one who is keeping this running. In regards to your post, directed to me. Yes, it is his money, but on the other hand it is my time. If he wants a cheaper job that's fine with me but he won't get it from me. That is part of the problem with some taxidermist, they are willing to give deals. I don't prostitute myself. I do taxidermy part time and I won't and don't do deals. If you had any idea of the work behind African game...The thing you aren't figureing is that a taxidermist takes in his whole years work in 4 - 5 months. So for almost half a year he can't hardly work for all the distractions of people bringing in deer. I don't take in that many, but figure this, in 4 months he takes in 100 deer, 6 days a week from say 7am - well past dark. Then in 7 - 8 months he works 10 - 20 hrs per deer. That's not counting fox, coyotes, bobcats, fish and birds. So 1500 hours in 8 months. Most people work 2000 hrs a year. So in 4 months he works nearly 1300 hrs then works 1500 more just on deer. And you want it when??? I agree that to the untrained it seems that they should be able to turn things around faster but figure all of those factors in... |

NC I can appreciate all the time and hard work that goes into an African mount ... the only thing is the subject of this thread was " Deer Mounts" ... I respect good Taxiedermist and the work they do .. I just think some do not feel the same way about their customers if they expect them to wait 18 to 24 months to get back a commercial mounted whitetail deer ..thats my only point ..as for what you charge thats your business ..you can't get it if you don't ask for it Ive always said ...then its up to me if I want to pay it...simple "buy and sell"

Scott, once and for all, drop the knuckleheaded remarks about how we taxidermists dont respect our customers when we expect them to wait so long. You are wrong. Theres a waiting list due to work load. We cant hire inexperienced help. We cant raise our prices until we adjust, as much as some suggest, lest we price it beyond what a GOOD customer can justify. We tell in advance how long the wait might be. From there, the customer has to make the choice. Period.
Taxidermists know exactly what side of their bread is buttered, and by whom. Taxidermists with no customers are simply people playing with dead things. A good restaurant isnt disrespecting its customers with a twenty minute wait, they simply dont have a table available yet. Theres a reason for that, and it sure isnt because the building shouldve been bigger. Enough is enough already! |

It is apparent DD that you have a lack of understanding when it comes to taxidermy. I would say most taxidermistsbring in 75% of their work load in, in 3 - 4 months, Durring that time the only thing that can be done is fleshing, salting, preping capes, amd hide to get ready for the tannery. It is hard to get anything done when you are getting inturupted every 20 minutes to take in a deer or answer the phone and give price quoats. Of course you wouldn't know anything about it because your NOT a taxidermist.
It is also apparent from the comments you have made on here that you have a lack of respect for our profession. If you knew anythingabout what it takes to mount a specimin and how much work realy goes into it I doubt you would think so light on the subject. I think you need to do some honest reasurch and re-evaluate your opinion... |

Perhaps some hold a resentment for having to pay another
a profit to preserve their trophy and not having the ability to dictate delivery time |
