RE: deer mounts

It is apparent you feel that us Taxidermist don't deserve or need any DOWN TIME! What do you expect? You expect us to work 7 days a week? Some people need a break. I already work 9 hours a day 5 days a week as a mechanic. Go to school for 4.5 hours at night 3 nights a week for diesel mechanics. This is all phisical labor, ya don't think I am already tired befor I get home? On weekends and in the evenings I am in the shop. I am in the shop from 7 am to about midnight on weekends. Give me a break!

AS for finding time to be on the computer. I am at work right now on my lunch break. While I eat lunch/dinner etc I like to check e-mail and this forum because it is about the ONLY FREE TIME I HAVE.....

Mike do not put words in my mouth I never said that ... I do not even know you so why would I expect you to work 7 days a week and why would I carewhat your hours are ...now if you had a mount of mine and you told me it was going to take two years to get it back yeh I would have an interest but at this point I don't care when you take off .. I was just replying to YOUR post ..

From the coments you have made on here how else would you look at it. It sounds to me like you don't care what we do when we don't have a deer head of yours. As long as we get yours done we can do what ever we want. Your complaining because a local guy goes hunting and than you make a smart coment that I am on the computer.

STOP calling me MIKE. I am female and my name is Michelle! !

i never have gotten a deer head mounted, but i do expect when i get one to wait a year.....that seems to be a reasonable time for a taxidermist to do a nice job......if they are not bogged down with a million other things...

Sounds like you are one busy lady Michelle!!!

RE: deer mounts

Its quite apparent at this point, that the dead horse we keep beating is well beyond a taxidermy speciman by now! Its come down to this...those who have a long return time try to explain why, but get judged by others in here as not knowing how to run a business. Those who have a short return time get labeled as not having enough to do, therefore not any good. Both inaccurate, but thats what the post has come to. Beyond that, we have one criticizing the other, then saying they dont care. I always like that excuse, like if you really DONT care, why comment in the first place! That only elicits a defensive reply, and it snowballs downward from there.

So, in MY attempt to wrap this up, and knowing that reading comprehension is not a strong point in here...some guys are already at the top of the price range and still receive more work than they can do in a year. Some guys seem to get in just the right amount to do within a year. Both are honest, and both do have the customer in mind. This isnt always the case in the taxidermy world, but as far as those involved in here, in this post, it is so. So it then comes down to the customer. We have heard from those who tolerate a long wait and feel theyre rewarded with superior work, and others who have stated over and over (ok we HEARD!) that they would NEVER wait that long, they determine what is and isnt an exceptable return. Still others have found the porridge thats not too hot and not too cold, butjust right, to quote a book with talking bears. They got a nice mount at a nice price for a nice return time.

Cant we just except this? Its also a regional thing, a class thing, and many other factors. Please trust what we as taxidermists say about it, we are making our livings based on it, we just might know what we are talking about. Even when we see a defensive reply, some of us knew in advance that its another taxidermist expressing his opinion. Like I said, we do know our biz!

I will say that I agree with you in one respect that in general you do get what you pay for which is just the way ecconomics work ..you do not get more for less I am a firm beleiver of that

Personally I have no problem with paying for quality because your using a man who has paid his due's and deserves to make a fair profit on his time and experience..

Michelle when you say "the comments I made" ..are you talking about these or did you convenently forget about these ?
