Default Tanning a doe skin/how do I do the tail?

I am making a rug from a nice doe skin for my daughter. How do I deal with the tail? She wants it left on. Do I split it somehow? Detailed instructions are appreciated.

split it on the bottom (white side) take out the bone and salt then tan or send it out to be tanned.

Do I remove the underside skin or leave it connected as a flap on each side? Would be a shame to throw away all that pretty white hair underneath.
