I'm no expert, but i think 8 wks a bit early! Let the dog get used to it's name... see if it responds when you say "butch" or whatever... then start putting the leash on him for short periods of time... after he can tolerate the leash a bit, put it on him and start with the "come" command.
Each dog is different and can tolerate training at different stages. Most likely, you just got this dog... let him get used to his new surroundings for at least a week or two before you start putting the leash on him and stressing him out right away?
Have you read any training books? What kind of dog do you have?

I tie my pups to a stake with a swivel on top I give them about 18 inches. It takes them a while but they come to term with it on there own. I do this in 2 hour sessions over a few weeks time. Also make sure they have access to water. Dont let them off until they settle down I also let them drag the leesh around the yard.

i always heard when u 1st put em on a leash tie the leash to something and walk off for a while so the dogs can get used to it on their own so they wont associate u being the one tying them up then after a short period of time when they have calmed down and gotten used to the leash take them on a walk

When they are a little older have two people with treats about twenty yds apart. Call them to you give them a treat. Hold em let the other person call them and so on. It makes the coming to you a good thing. Jackie Mertens video"Sound Beginnings" shows this, it's a good one for training puppies.
