I would not be surprized if a raccoon might have done this damage. I have seen them attack a dog before. Its pretty ugly. At our local pound, wich is an outside establishment, they have a limit on how small of a dog they will take in the kennels because the coons will break in and literaly tear the dogs to pieces.

well the dog has been to 2 different vets. and they both think it was a bear .due to the size of the scrape patterns . the dog is comming along nicelly ,although he looks pretty pathetic ,he had quite a bit of fur shaved off .but thats o.k. its starting to grow back .yhanks to all who responded !!!!
