Default Hog Dogs

I am buying two Catahoula pups to start off with. I am not going to have a bay pen with a hog. How can I train these dogs and get them running hogs. I want to get a couple running hogs before I get more dogs.

I myself dont have bay or strike dogs, just two catch dogs, but I have read that if you have friends who hunt, ask for the fresh carcases and drag them around the yard and hide them. When the pups start to track and find it, reward them. They will associate the smell of pig to a reward. No substitute for woods time though.

Your best bet would be to hook-up with some fellas who already have good dogs and have been doing it for years.

hi i raise kemmer mt curs and they are the greatest iin my mind i would take them out as pups and let them hunt the hog woods just to get them to be able to venture out and know its ok then u get a hog hunting buddy and the older dogs will do the rest but if ur like i was and didnt have on to go with all the time u need to go out hunting for them hogs and leave ur dogs in the truck , shot a hog in the hip ir a front hoof then go get them dogs and bring them close not all the way within 75 yards once they find it reward them as they are baying say good job and pat them on the back they want to make u happy and if baying a hog is what it takes then they will do it let them eat on alittle of it to not much though this works my dogs hunt every weekend and bay every weekend
