Dog wetting on Garage floor help
#1
I bought a German wirehair A few weeks ago! He was 14 weeks old when I got him. He's been a very good pup except for the fact that he likes to relieve himself on my garage floor!!!
I have a doggy door that leads to a kennel outside. He will go out the door so thats not it. I've tried to lock him out side in the kennel so he would get used to going out there, but it doesn't seem to sink in. I can't leave him for more than a couple of hours and he'll pee on the floor!
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for any help!

A 14 week old puppy needs to be taken out every 30 minutes weather the need to go or not. I would bet you 10 to 1 that the pup will need to pee. If you personally take the dog outside to pee the pup will get the idea that outside is for peeing and inside is not for peeing. At 14 weeks a pups bladder is small and under developed. I am suprised he can make it 2 hours.
During the night when a dog is asleep their system slows down and less urine is produced and they can hold it longer. During the day and especially when the dog is active and playing their system produces more urine and must be taken out frequently. Taking the dog out often will help house train the dog and prevent ongoing problems.
A little extra work now will save you a lot of frustration in the future. I personally take my pups out when they are young. Remember you have to correct the behavior the pup learned in the litter which was taking a wizz anywhere at anytime. Good luck it gets easier. If you catch the pup in the act of peeing where it is not supposed to go pick up the dog in midstream and rush him out. Its ok to yell NO in a raised voice but do not scold the dog if you find a puddle.....the pup will have no idea why your upset. It might make the dog fearful. Never spank a young pup it will just screw up their head with fear problems that can become nasty problems when the pup grows into an adult.
Edit....I just re-read your and realized you brought him home at 14 weeks. Thats a bit long in the litter. Not really a bad thing but he may have been able to poop and pee as he pleased. It may take just a little more training than normal but be patient he will figure it out. Dont forget every 30 minutes weather he needs to or not. I use the command GO PEE. And I reward my dog for taking a pee with praise. He pees on command and thats handy thing when he has sights and smells or other things on his mind when I am ready to go in for the night.
One other thing. Crate training is awesome. If you are not familiar Google CRATE TRAINING. My 10 month old Lab mix has yet to destroy anything in the house while we are away because of it. Crate training has been a Godsend for us.

As has been stated, your puppy needs to be taken out on a very regular basis. Dogs don't just automatically know what to do.
The best book I have seen is "How to Housebreak Your Dog in Seven Days" by Shirlee Kalstone http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0553346156/ref=sr_1_olp_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1225997 800&sr=8-1. It's the we recommend to our puppy buyers who want help with the housebreaking; and it's dirt cheap for the used ones. It uses crate training as the method of housebreaking; I also happen to believe very strongly in crate training. Just don't believe the 7 day part of the title, ain't gonna happen that quick!!
Good luck with your pup and be patient with him!

cant add anything but this, put puppy in dog kennel and make it small.
they will not pee or poo where they sleep.
then when you take him out, say OUTSIDE,OUTSIDE,OUTSIDE.
IN FUTURE, YOUR DOG WILL LOOK AT YOU AND IF YOU SAY outside HE WILL BEAT YOU TO DOOR.
