hey can anyone tell me wat the best dog for squirrel huntin is?

Depends on what you have hunted with. Jack russels and mountain currs will probably be the top two. The best dog I ever hunted with was half walker hound and half mountain curr. She was awesome, my cousin sold her though.

You know, any dog with a good prey drive will tree squirrels. Two of my sled dogs are two of the best squirrel dogs I've ever used. I have a buddy who's Heeler X Border Collie will tree squirrels all day long if you let her. A fiesty mutt will get the job done. I bet if you went to the shelter you will find some terrier or cowdog mix that will be a best pal and great squirrel dog. Be patient on gun breaking. With my two guy's I started taking them out with an air rifle, then the .22 and finally a .410. No problems.

My fiance' got a Bluetick (bred for coonhunting) mixed with a black lab from her sister for free and I decided to try and train it. He's doing good so far but all I've been able to show him thus far are caged squirrels and pelts. I think once I can get him in the woods I'll be able to train him much better

My springer spaniel/Beagle mix mut that I rescued from Puerto Rico will tree squirrels till she dropped dead of exhaustion if she wanted to. Can't trust her off leash b/c she'll chase cotton-tails until i lose her.

I have hunted with Rat Terriers that were great. Small, great endurance and love to hunt squirrels.
