Quality high-energy dogs
I met a breeder who I like and has some very fine Field Bred English Springer Spaniels. The dog he demonstrated for me there will be sire of upcoming litter was a machine. He says he breeds his dogs mostly for hunting and AKC field trials and has roots from England.
I went to local hunters trial this past weekend that a group of clubs have. All Springer’s I looked at seemed of slow.
How important is speed as characteristic of quality gun dog?
Any info opinions would be appreciated

Dear Ed,
Please check your e-mail. I can tell you that not ALL Springers are slow working. Also remember that if a dog is too fast, it may miss the bird! Do you want to run after the dog/bird or enjoy the hunt?
Your dog selection depends on your style of hunting. I have a Lab that works fine or me, and I work with members of a club I belong to (springer club) that have dogs I like and some I do not care for.
Good Luck with the Duck!
