how cold is to cold?!?
Hey whats going on everyone. I am new to waterfowl hunting with a dog. Ive got a 2 year old choclate. That Ive put alot of time into and this will be his first year to hunt. Our season in arkansas opens the 19 of nov.. This may sound like a dumb question. BUt i dont know the answer so iam going to ask. How do u know when the dog is to cold. I mean i know they shake after they come out of cold water. But is there any tell tell signs that should let me know when enough is enough? Anything helps thanks

Boy, this should get alot of responses, I personally have had no problems with being to cold, I feel, good food and proper conditioning, should not be any problems. I ran the mississippi flyway for years in central Illinois, and never had a problem, hunted from oct through feb, went from ducks, to canada's, to snows and blues. Had many, many icicles hanging off my young, or old dogs. Don't be afraid to get the dog out, and it walk around, probably do you both good. Always take the gun though, that mistake will nip you in the bud!! Hahahaha, experience is best teacher!! Thanks, Jonesy what do you think DocE??

I don't think it would get too cold in Arkansas for a Lab. They are very tough dogs. You don't have much to worry about.
I hunt my Lab in winter cornfields for geese sometimes in zero temps. He just lays down and leans against me. That seems to be comfortable enough for him.
