VA hunting club
Folks I just moved to the Fredericksburg area, and l am looking for a hunting and archery club club to join. Also, is there an archery range around here as well. I stopped in at Gander Mountain, and they said they had a 20 and 30 yard range. I am looking for a range that has a 3d course, as well as a complete sightng range also,

RE: VA hunting club
CFCE..let me be the first to welcome you to the boards!!! ALso let me welcome you to the Fredericksburg area!!!
I live in the Fred. area myself and have all of my life... not sure if it is a good thinkg or not LOL Actually I am pretty happy around here.. just a little too much traffic at times but generally good people. As far as the club goes there is a group of us on here trying to secure some land to start our own. We had a few leads this year but the fell through for one reason or another. But I spend my free time looking for land and asking to anyone I think might have some useful information. We are going to try to hit it harder for next year. We have a few more people that are actually helpign looking for land, in the begining it was only myself and one or two others. Please drop me a email and we will discuss further. I also might have a place I can take you on a hunt I will have to double check though. [email protected] thanks Justin ps. if you ever go on a hunting trip with Vasavage270 watch out.. he snores loudly!!!! LOL j/k Dave:D |
RE: VA hunting club
Hey CFCE,
Like Eng said, welcome to VA! We have a great bunch of guys here from all over the area. I'm in Richmond and hunt public land, WMA's, state forests, etc... and have been joining in the search for a piece of land to form a hunt club. So far, the areas surrounding Richmond are spoken for and have been in existence since probably 1872! Hunt clubs of that nature are not taking members, as (so I heard) they are mostly immediate family members and kinfolk and/or a brother of an in-law, or .....whatever. Translation: you/me/everyone else ain't gettin' in. What we need to do is establish a range. Like, get everyone together somehow and see who lives where and just exactly how far they would travel to be able to hunt in a club. With me being in the Richmond area, I'd like to stay somewhere in the central area (Fredericksburg/Richmond/Charlottesville/Farmville). Again, welcome to VA and the hunting.net board! [8D] Butch A. P.S.... Sorry, you also asked about an archery club. I have surfed the web and seen a few traditional archery clubs and IBO 3D archery clubs in Virginia. I'll try to get you a link.... |
RE: VA hunting club
Hey CFCE,
I would like to also welcome you to the Board, Oh by the way don't listen to Eng and Butch..lmao... As Eng mentioned quite a few of us are searching for property to start a club. Some of us are working close and hunting together so feel free to ask of your concerns around here these Gentlemen are great friends and resources. I've had the pleasure to hunt with Eng, we had a blast, still waiting on butch and my directive to him..lmao....but in any case CFCE if we can assist please do not hesitate to contact either one of us. It's SMOKE POLE SEASON!! guess I'll be hitting culpepper a small piece of property a friend owns I normally hunt as last resort. |
RE: VA hunting club
Oh ENG!
My birthday is Nov 20 and I was planning on a hunt at FFF, If your game I'm willing to expense it. I owe you a hunt from Hogs Island and I like to repay that gesture. Let me know you have my home number, the cell don't work anymore since I resigned from Tarje'... lol Yeah I took that leap into a much more profitable venture. Butch your welcome to join me on this hunt if you like just bring your own BEER..lol I'll spring for the hunt but not your drinking habit if any..lmao 703-583-8216 Home Office Number just in case you lost my home number leave a message. I'm off for a week doing nothing, my goal is to tear up someones woods...lol |
RE: VA hunting club
Dave,
I thought you fell into a black hole or something... I had tried calling you cell a few times but to no avail... glad to see you alive and kicking.... I will let you know by monday as far as the 20th... I would love to go but thats my weekend with my kids. SO let me see if I can do some re-arranging and work it out. If you off this week thats great... just so happens I might have some time off as well. Maybe we can hook up and get some meat on the ground!! I will give you a call this weekend... I plan on being in the woods this afternoon if I get some things finished up this morning... |
RE: VA hunting club
Thanks guys for the warm invite. I would very much like to assist you in helping to secure land. So please feel free to email me, and tell me what I can do to help. Also, maybe someone can point me in the direction of a bowshop and range in the area. I really do not want to drive up to Manassas if I do not have to. I like B&D, but it is a drive and 95 on the weekend is brutal.

RE: VA hunting club
CFCE,
Bow shop in your area Arrow's By Design 540-373-3768 tell Neal you know Justin David. |
RE: VA hunting club
I'd stay away from B&D. Very expensive and they seem to rush people in and out of the shop.
I live about 20 min from F'Burg in Orange County. I hunt a 50 acre plot here in orange that borders several hundred acres and another small 15 acre plot that borders the battlefield. I haven't hunted here but twice this year...I have been spending time hunting in Fairfax/Loundon county. Deer are thick up there. I too, would like to help and get on the bandwagon in the search of land to hunt. I'll be losing the 50 acre plot here this year due to houses being built. Let me know how I can help. |
RE: VA hunting club
ive had nothing but good experiences from this place. oh, btw, its b & b archery. they know how to tune bows. as for their prices, they cant buy archery products at the same cost, as say wal mart or dicks. they are running a business there so they have to charge for their time. if you want to buy a pack of muzzy's, then just go to wal mart. if you want your bow tuned or briken down on a press, then i would go to b & B.
john |
RE: VA hunting club
I used to be a huge B&B fan.... I recommended them to everyone I cuold and even drove a few people up there so they could buy bows and stuff.
But the last few times I have been in there I was rushed out basically... I mean they are good people but it seems like if your not in their click or buying a new bow everytime you go in then they get you out as quick as possible. I found Neal (Arrows by Design) when I was looking to get a dozen arrows and B&B did not have what I wanted... Neal not only had what I wanted but had a really awsome price on what I got. I have been buying anything I can from him since then.... He is honest and doesnt try to sell you thinkgs you dont need. His bow tuning skills are awsome and he cutsom makes his own strings!! He also takes the time to talk to all of his customers as if they are the only customer he has and they spend a million dollars a year with him. I have been in there a few times just to ask questions and he always stops what he is doing and will answer them and explain them. Like I said B&B iare good people and nothign against them, but I will send all of my buisness to Neal.... that is until I get my shop up and running LOL!! |
RE: VA hunting club
CFCE,
I live in the Woodbridge area, and I, too, am looking for a club around the area. I made a separate post asking for info, but since this topic is relevant here I thought I'd join in. Have you had any luck finding a club? I am still in search of, for either bow, rifle or shotgun. |
RE: VA hunting club
Whitewolf
that is negative on a hunting club. I am still in search of a good archery range here in the Fredericksburg area as well. LEt me know of your endeavors on finding a club. CFCE |
RE: VA hunting club
CFCE,
I haven't been able to find a hunt club around the area, as of yet. I said in a separate post that I received some information on a supposed club called the National Sportsman Association that is supposedly in Woodbridge. They seem to have a decent amount of land around the NOVA area but I don't have the money yet to join - something like 500.00 or so for "unlimited" access to the lands and the club's range. If you want to check them out, they're at http://www.nsa-inc.com. The site won't tell you all that much, but you can request info on joining through the e-mail listed. Check it out, and maybe I'll see you there one of these days! |
RE: VA hunting club
Hey guys if its land in the fred, area your looking for then look no further. i am from the stafford area and i am in the process of signing a couple land leases for the next 4 hunting seasons and i am putting a club together. it will be a full managed hunting experience with everything you need to harvest some big va bucks and of course doe management as well. the land is in fauqier county 12 miles from geico on rt 17 and as you all know its doe season all season their so it will get managed perfectlly. let me know if you are intrested. we are taking members as we speak.

RE: VA hunting club
I just PM'd you (I didn't see this thread at first....) WOW! There are many of us who have been dying to try to get into a club or try to start one up.
I am V-E-R-Y interested in a club! Please PM me with details, info, or anything you can provide. Thanks! Butch A. |
RE: VA hunting club
Ok guys heres the deal. since i am getting alot of response for info on the hunt club heres some info. i will be responding to your pms as well. we had a good club going in the orange area until the parcels of land we were renting were sold. i have alot of experience in running a succesful club. what we are going to do is lease a few different parcels of land which consist of farm land, tree farm, and harwood/ swamp land. we are going to designate one parcel to strictly dog hunting for group club hunting and we will have bow only areas as well. i want people that are intrested in more than just a one season membership. i dont mean you have to pay in advance for multiyear memberships, i mean i want you to be commited to harvesting the best animals possible and to do that it means selective harvesting the animals (buck to doe ratio) so we insure quality animals to be there the following year. there will be size limits depending on the areas so we can accomplish this. now the pieces of land we are in the process of getting have little or no hunting pressure and hold alot of deer right now. what we want to do is to build on the quality animals that are there. we will share meat when hunting as a group with either dogs or man drives. 4 wheelers are allowed and encouraged since some of the areas are huge. all the land will be posted tight and every member will have keys to all gates for the hunting areas. we will also be putting up permanent box blinds in certain areas and they must be shared so its fair. we will also be doing food plots which will consist of a bio logic blend and native sources of food such as soybeans, alfalfa, clovers, corn etc. if you have kids getting into the sport we encourage you to bring them so they can enjoy the hunting as well and we will be having a youth hunt only a couple times during the season so we can make sure our young hunters have a succesful season as well. the membership fees are not set in stone yet since i am still working to finalize the lease deal but it looks like it will be around 300.00 to 500.00 a year. all of your money goes into a club account and all money goes into the club for the lease, food plots, maintaining the land blinds, etc. their will be a monthly expense report sent out to all members so they can see exactly what their money is being used for. safety is our number one goal so we need to see hunter safety certificates for all youth hunters. we will also have a out building on one of the proprties for skinning the deer. if you have any further questions then give me a call 540-286-2408 this is a first come deal so call me and we will put you on the list. there will be a cut off number so dont hesitate if your intrested.

RE: VA hunting club
JUST AN UPDATE ON THE CLUB SITUATION
good news and bad news. the good news is it looks like we are going to get this going. the bad news for some is that it will be without the use of dogs. i have to carry insurance and i am not going to be able to afford the insurance for that kind of hunting unless i raise fees by more than half and that would be no good so as far as this is going to go there will be no dogs. but that will be better anyways as far as management of the wildlife so for those that have contacted me and have shown intrest it looks like we are going to have a great bunch next year and i look forward to hunting with all of you. |
RE: VA hunting club
I am in North Stafford also and would be very intrested, I primarily bow hunt, but have been known to gun hunt a day or two. Hard to go gun hunt when I usually score on 7 deer or better with my bow year after year.
I too believe in management. The does have to be reduced, and the young buck must be left alone. Are you concidering a point restriction or a spread restriction or both? I worked for a hunting program on a military base (local) for 9 years and have some research data if you need it. |
RE: VA hunting club
No dogs is not an issue for me, Chris. I'm still down
|
RE: VA hunting club
Chris,
I'm interested in gathering information on your hunt club effort with an eye toward joining. Can you please contact me at your leisure during evening hours (after 7:00 PM). Thanks, Kemp Lear 540 786-6516 |
RE: VA hunting club
Happy New Year's To All,
Chris, Have you gotten all the information for reviewing of club bylaws etc., also the status point of origin as to total expenses to members? I know your giving this due diligence as you prepare all the necessary documentation needed to make this successful and benefical to all parties. If you need any assistance do not hesitate to contact me in any regards. David |
RE: VA hunting club
ok just to keep everyone informed things are looking good and everything looks good with the insurance and everything else. as far as rules for the club. the rules are basically going to be common sence. everyone who pays a membership should treat the land as if it was your own. so that means of course you wouldnt leave trash, tear the place up, shoot at barns, shoot livestock, vandalism etc. you know the common sense things. i dont want to have to babysit or police anybody and i dont think anyone wants me to. i just want serious hunters who respect the management aspect of the club. im not putting in place a size limit on bucks cause i dont want to have to watch over people. i want you guys to police yourselves. if you have doubt of the buck then dont shoot it. if your hunting with your kids and its a first time deer then let them experience the harvest. but remember these leases are 5 year leases and we already have quality deer on the land and it is up to us to maintain that and manage that accordingly. i know there are some people upset with me about me not doing the dog thing cause some of you have called me and voiced your oppinions but as far as insurance and liability goes im just not going to do it cause i dont think its fair for everyone to have to pay big bucks to cover the cost especially since the majority of people really would rather still hunt then run dogs and i think its the best way to manage the deer by not running dogs. again i apoligize. i am really excited after talking to alot of you on the phone of the guys intrested in this club. all of you show the same desires as i do about doing this the right way and to be honest i was not expecting it. this is going to be a club of safety first and hunting second and i feel really good about those i have talked to. i will keep you posted as i get info in and then we can all meet up and you can look at the land and we can start taking dues and get this show on the road. now as far as dues its looking like the cost is going to be 350.00 to 400.00 a year. and i cant wait for the 2005 season and hunting with each and every one of you.

RE: VA hunting club
so what is going on here for this club? I have not heard anything for quite sometime and wondering what is the latest.
|
RE: VA hunting club
Hi CFCE,
how are you doing, I moved to the area (Orange Co.) last year as well and found it REAL hard to find a good place to hunt for the season. I had some luck on some private property of a friend I met at work, a 10 ptr & a spike. The 10 ptr is on my wall right now :D But what I wanted to tell you was late in the season, mid Dec, I started to explore / hunting with a bow, one of the WMA and found there was hardly any one there during the week, 2 or 3 people at the most, on 10k acres. I found places where the deer had been tearing up the accorns under the oak trees, lots of rub & scraps on riges. Being to noise I spooked up 2 deer one day. I know i will be scouting some of this territory early in oct to set up tree stand / ambush sites and look for others. I am Real INTERESTED in the hunt club VA HUNTER is trying to set up, have the money set aside burning a hole in my pocket[:@] US Navy Ret. Bryan |
RE: VA hunting club
Yeah, guys.... What's the latest word? The VA Hunt Club sounded really good and everything. There are a lot of us who are interested, and then never heard anything.
{Knock, knock, knock, HELLO?!?!} Butch |
RE: VA hunting club
Well guys I had been talkign with Chris on a several time a week basis until about 3 weeks ago and now I can not get ahold of him. I have left several messages with no returns so far. I actually had some land leads I was going to try to put in with his to see what happened.
Since I have not heard from him I went back to my own thing. I have a tennative lease on around 1000 acres in the Montross area. As well as several really good leads I am working on that are closer to town here. They are in the King George area mostly with a few being in Spotsy. I am just having a hard time getting free time to go knock on doors like I would like though. I have everything else taken care of including insurance which allows any style of hunting that anyone wants to participate in. |
RE: VA hunting club
Insteresting,
How sweet things sounded a few months ago with this new venture brought before us. I've spoke with Chris some time back, things were interesting and I was intrigued. Now since that brief moment I haven't heard anything of it. As Eng just explained he's been working on what a few of us previously started before chris came forth was a club. I just asked that if everyone who's interested can keep their eyes peeled for possible land leases it would be greatly appreciated as everything else in putting a club together is in place. LAND REMAINS THE CRITICAL FACTOR AT THIS JUNCTION. |
RE: VA hunting club
Just to jump off the topic for a minute, anyone preparing for the Spring Gobbler season? And if so are willing to hunt with a partner etc.
|
RE: VA hunting club
When does long beard season begin?? I dont have a clue.... but yes I would be willing to hunt with a friend or two....
As far as the club like i said the only thing lacking is more land at this point.... any and all hands on deck to help look would be great!!! |
RE: VA hunting club
Eng, VASavage,
Spring Gobbler dates are: Apr 9-30.....1/2 hour before sunrise 'till noon. May 2-14....1/2 hour before sunrise 'till sunset. I'm open to joining in on a long beard hunt. I have a nice HS Strut single reed call that I can use pretty good. But then again, I would really get nervous turkey hunting on a WMA on any given Saturday! [&:][:o] There's got to be better places to go!Butch A. |
RE: VA hunting club
I have one or two little chucnks of private land that I can get on... in fact VaSavage has been to one of them.
It has a few turkeys on it!! |
