Florida Hunters

I'm trying to meet other hunters from Florida who are interested in deer, hog, squirrel hunting. None of my friends are interested in hunting and usually resort to hunting alone or with a guide/outfitter. I would like to find people to hunt with on public land or join a lease.

Thanks for any replys.

South Floridian hunter here. I, too hunt the WMAs in the area. Private land is hard to find here, let alone anyone else to hunt with.

I live north of Tampa. I hunt in Appalacola and hunt in Ga. This will be my first year hunting in Ga. I am pumped for this season. Bow season starts 9-11-04 in Ga. I can hunt in FL in the NW zone until the begining of Feb. That's 5 months of hunting. You gotta love that.

Big man, I live in Extreme southern Florida just like you. I hunt from Homestead, alligator alley, (bear island and turner river unit). Bull Creek, Green swamp and beyond up through Alabama and now:D Georgia. Let me know what you're looking for.

OH cool Rusty how many acres does ur family own and what WMA's do u go to?

RustyOlRanger4x4 09-03-2004 09:51 AM

RE: Florida Hunters

My uncle has a little over 300 acres that he manages along with his neighbor who has several hundred more acres and I have a friend a little ways down the road with 500 acres that I hunted most of the time last year But we had some problems with his neighbors last year that he had also given permission to hunt his property also so i probably wont hunt there this year but I usually Hunt econfina WMA its about a 10min. drive from my house and its an awesome turkey spot

gulfcoasthunter 09-03-2004 08:59 PM

RE: Florida Hunters

Ranger I hear its getting harder to get a permit for econfina or maybe thats just in the dog hunt area. I haven't hunted it in several years but there where some nice bucks up there. If you hear of any leases up that way let me know, I have one in St. Joe but would rather have one up around Jackson or N. Washington counties.

RustyOlRanger4x4 09-04-2004 06:08 AM

RE: Florida Hunters

That must be for dog permits I herd they were cutting back on them for econfina all you have to do is go get a $25 permit at walmart or where ever and it covers all managment areas in florida(use to be about $50 for 2 different management area permits) and they have the quota hunt permits I got a early gun season one last year and a muzzle loading permit in the fitzu carter(sp?) area on the other side of 20 I think the biggest deer shot in 2000 or 2001 was shot up there at econfina, But its hard to find good spots up there, every where by the creek in the oaks is all non hunting areas and the spot I hunted last year is now a huge logged field so its getting worse and worse I wanted to get a lease this year but ran into some financial trouble and had to hold off but I should have one next year, Theres usually several leases listed in the news paper but most of them I had called on were near ebro.

Yeah big man, I have thoght about hunting in J. W. but decided against it. Due to too many hunters. The places that I've hunted so far down south like, WMA: Turner River Unit and Bear Island. Homestead also, I've only seen hunters at the gate not out in the Theater of operations.;);)

When I got my turkey last season coming out of Turner River Unit I meet a fellow hunter that had come from hunting at J. W. and was complaining about how crowded it was. But with all that said, many people love the place.

There's also, WMA: Holylands, Rotenburege(sp). Bull Creek and Green swamp. Really, there are alot of public hunting available to you if you're willing to deal with some cross over hunters. It's never really bothered me, but some people arn't geared for it.

Oh thats cool DHF i know J.W Corbett has high pressure but i dont know of any other good state parks around my area. I live in Miami. What part of FL are u located in? Maybe if u would like we can set up a hunt. Let me know what u think.

I live in Western Pembroke Pines all the way out by US 27 and Holiday Park. Have plans on doing alot of hunting this year. Had plans on hunting today out in the Big Cypress but Frances screwed that up.

No problem setting up a hunt if you want. Have plans on hunting Hogs, Quail, Dove, Ducks, Deer, and my favorite, TURKEY. YEAH BABY.

Now if you're looking for "Joe Pro" hunter and quide, I'm not the guy. I just got started two years ago. Built 2 duck hunting boats and now completing my "cork" decoy rig. but I'm main lining now on this hunting thing. Self employed father of 3 and have been working 7 days aweek since May to pay for my upcoming hunts. I basically hunt with my father,(66yrs old) and my sons,(15, and 12). My father has a neighbor, (Bob from FP&L), who has re-taken up duck hunting after a 20yr hiatis. Nice fella, and a family man.

Let me know if you would like to get together and talk about any possible plans on hunts. We go low budget and low pressure.

Here's some examples: Slept in the back of a van while hunting Green swamp and Bull creek for turkeys last year. Got rear ended by a migrant worker so I had to use my 14' canoe and a trolling motor and 2 batteries so I could still hunt to the end of last duck season. It was slow but I really wanted to get out there and hunt. I called it silent running. Little spooky, when you factor in the gators. I slipped right up on them before they new it. Scared the holy ho ha out of me at o dark thirty, so decided to slide along the edge of the canal from them on.

Got a dog, Chocolate lab fem. Trained to the Walters video. She's pretty good.

Hey Dhf the low budget is a good thing no problem with having to pass trouble sometimes everything in life aint smooth u have to take some sacrafice sometimes and i like the way u think about that. Yes i would like to set up a hunting trip. And no im not looking for no "Joe Pro" lol im not a pro myself or not close 2 be either lol recent to hunting as u so we can maybe help each other out and learn from our mistakes like we all commit. Well if u could E-Mail me at [email protected] we can talk it in more detail and in private. Im looking forward to see if we can plan something. lets see how it goes.

RE: Florida Hunters

Ranger if you wont I'm sure there is a spot in our lease that will open next year, its right at the White City bridge but that maybe a little far for you. Its got plenty of hogs and some decent deer. Had a real nice 9point killed last year and the bucks are getting better.

Thanks for the offer Ill keep it in mind, Im still not real sure on what all will be going on since Ill be going to gulf coast in the spring and im not real sure what ill get as far as grants and all so im not sure how my financial status will be around that time. But thanks for the offer

Hey Everready - did that in the Adirondaks of NY.... and am going to try and do it here in FL... if I can ever find the time between hurricane repairs..

SJWMD and SFWMD opened up some land along the Kissimmee river to public hunting and its only accessible via boat, neighbor and I are planning on it after we fix our houses.

Check the regs, its only illegal if you have a motor and am underway... can you read canoe??

Read the regs closer. If someone is paddling then that canoe is underway. All motion is to be stopped. A sailboat? the sails must be furled and forward motion must be stopped.

There's the frog pond way down by you. I have dove hunted on a farmers private land the last two years. Heck of a nice man but you have to ask his permission each year.

Did a job for a co-workers friend this year and he said I and , who ever, in my party could dove, quail, and hog hunt on his land. Yeah baby. I'll call him in the next 3 days and let you know, just in case your interested.

I hunt ducks in the glades, Holiday park and Sawgrass. Teal, blue and green. Florida mallard. Turkeys all over. Plan on expanding my hunting areas this year. Put in for alot of special permits this year. Fingers crossed.

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. Due to the f ing hurricanes I've been on overload at work.

I'm in Jacksonville, but I grew up in Missouri. I hunted from the time I was 12 until I joined the Navy at 19. I'd liek to get back into the Hunt.

I re-started my collection of firearms too. I've got a Mossberg 500 12 guage and a NOrinco Ak-47 here in Jax. When I return from deployment, I'll retreive my .22 and my 30-30.

Not this season, but maybe next season! I am moving to Lake county next August or September, just in time for hutning season. I really need someone to explain the WMA permitting process to me.
