RE: Florida Hunters
DHF:KYLEN,
I am not a native to Miami so I will have to find Frog Pond. Squirel would be fun. I hunted ptarmigen in Alaska a few times so grouse would be almost the same, except they fly. Hog would be great, except I don't know how to field dress them. Would have to call in my buddy for that. We hunted last year up by Okechobee and it was a blast, but $200 a pig gets expensive. Let me know, if work allows I would be interested. ORIGINAL: DHF:KYLEN ORIGINAL: TXBuyah I also live in Miami and would like to find some places to hunt. DHF:KYLEN, where in Homestead? On the base? It's only 20 miles away from me. Did a job for a co-workers friend this year and he said I and , who ever, in my party could dove, quail, and hog hunt on his land. Yeah baby. I'll call him in the next 3 days and let you know, just in case your interested. I hunt ducks in the glades, Holiday park and Sawgrass. Teal, blue and green. Florida mallard. Turkeys all over. Plan on expanding my hunting areas this year. Put in for alot of special permits this year. Fingers crossed. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. Due to the f ing hurricanes I've been on overload at work. There's the frog pond way down by you. I have dove hunted on a farmers private land the last two years. Heck of a nice man but you have to ask his permission each year. Did a job for a co-workers friend this year and he said I and , who ever, in my party could dove, quail, and hog hunt on his land. RE: Florida Hunters
I moved down from NY a year and a 1/2 ago.I'm in Temple Terrace just outside of Tampa.
I was "Joe Hunter" back in NY,a strict Traditional bowhunter.Man,down here I feel like a babe in the woods.I've been knocking around Greenswamp WMU this spring for Turkey.I worked a few birds but these Osceolas are a strange breed. Bow season I ended up seeing a spotted fawn[:'(].I was desperate enough to take a firearm in the woods as I drew opening day quotas for Greenswamp. No luck, just lost about a quart of blood to the mosquitos. I'd love to hook up with someone to show me the ropes. |
RE: Florida Hunters
Hello Rusty;
I live in Bascom Florida and mostly hunt private land, my farm, Upper Chipola and Aplachee WMA for Deer, but love to hunt Gobblers in the spring. I'm retired and am looking for a small deer and turkey combination lease or lease membership. I also have a good purebred bloodtrailing dog. I hunt compound, rifle, crossbow and shotgun. I also design and build hunting stands and blinds as a hobby. |
RE: Florida Hunters

DHF:KYLEN
You mentioned hunting Bear Island, what's it like there, see anything? Did you go in off the Alley or through the camp. Did you need wader's?;) I've been considereing hunting that area for Deer or Hog, don't care which crosses my path. You're one of the first I've seen mention it. I'm in Ft Myers and It's not too far away for an early morning start. Thanks Matt |

Big man, I've hunted Bear Island the last two years for turkeys. I've seen deer out there every time I've been there. I go in off the alley through the walk in gate. Was planing on hunting it this Sep. but the hurricanes blew that off. As far as the walk in, it goes like this. Water, water, water, and mud, lots of it until you get to the old road about 1/2 to 3/4's of mile in. I used waders at first then said the heck with it. Just use snake boot and chaps. Have to check and see if it's open for hunting. Alot of areas due to the high water mark are closed to all hunting except migratory birds right now. |
RE: Florida Hunters

RE: Florida Hunters
Hello Guys, I don't mean to jump into your conversation here. I'm a Ontarian from Canada and Love hunting. I used to hunt Florida a number of times as my Exfather in Law owned a place in Lake Okee. This was back 7-8 years ago and I enjoyed coming down and doing a little hunting. Since then the family split and he sold out. I've missed the hunting Florida had to offer. I'm not into the Thousands of Bucks that alot pay to hunt , but would be interested in getting togeather with some of the forum members to enjoy the hunting again. I hunt Both Bow and Gun and have shot a few turkeys as I hunt more of Deer and Turkeys around the US, but never set the sites on a Hog , seen lots just never did it.
If anyone has some interest in getting togeather for a Hog and turkey hunt , I would be delighted to travel down get setup and go out for a hunt. I'm a safe hunter and enjoy meeting others and hunting and telling stories. As you can see in my profile I have to be safe. If your intersted in meeting a new friend that is a huntaholic Please feel free to get ahold of me. I would aswell be willing to trade off a hunt , if you would like to visit this part of the world...Adrian J Hare/...BT |

RE: Florida Hunters
I'm a Christian hunter in Central Florida. I also hunt alone and wouldn't mind hunting with another Christian hunter. I'm usually the first one at the gate and put my heart in it. I usually hunt the Green Swamp but plan on extending too Three Lakes, Eglin and possibly Georgia.

I'm looking into hog hunting in the middle part of Florida, that's were I have permits for Green Swamp and Green Swamp West this year. From what everyone says they have hogs too. I know that Bull Creek has hogs also. Great places to hunt and very low low budget to hunt. But all are public areas, not sure if that's what you're looking for. Trying to set up a hog hunt for next month. It will be my first, have three options 2 of which are on private land. Let you know how it goes. |
RE: Florida Hunters

I had leases in Florida for about 30 years. About 6 years ago we gave up our last lease. We hunted mostly hogs and turkeys. We now lease in Alabama.
Being that far away killed the every weekend hunting camp lifestyle but the weather and excellent whitetail hunting in Alabama made up for it. I am older now and have more time and finances to spend a lot of time in AL. Additionally technology allows me to work while out of town so I can be gone and still keep things going as if I am in town. I miss the old Florida camp life but really enjoy my hunting season in Alabama. I live in Southwest Florida so development and population growth as pretty much made hunting here a no go. Our last lease was on a ranch south of Lake O. Great hog lease and about an Hour and a half drive from my house. 9 hr ride now to Alabama. |
