RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
I see that there are one or two still interested in this... anyothers??? Everyone I am thinking maybe next weekend to go and look at it..tell me what you think... I will see if the landowner would be willing to meet us if we decide to take a road trip!!
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Eng,
It's not a bad price for the per acre, and we can use it all season long at anytime if we decide to take the lease. I'm sure with the number of people who may be interested we can keep cost down per person. Not many people have land they can hunt on besides that of public lands and one still has to travel and expense a certain amount etc. Oh and by the way Farmville area is in one of those counties that has the urban bow season sept 18 opening for those looking to fill a freezer..lol September 18-October 1, 2004 and January 3-March 26, 2005 within the incorporated limits of the cities of Colonial Heights, Emporia, Franklin, Lynchburg, Martinsville, Radford, Richmond and the towns of Altavista, Amherst, Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Farmville, Independence, Rocky Mount, Tazewell, West Point and in Fairfax County. Restrictions and other information specific to each participating locality will be available here by August 2004. During this season only antlerless deer may be taken. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
I'm game for a roadtrip, but next weekend is the Outdoor Sportsmans show...gotta go there!!! I also have a wedding reception I am obligated to attend on Saturday evening. Is there any other time we could do this?
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Yes, Im very intrested if you can fit me in. Im also new to the area, living near Richmond now. My family and I moved here from Wisconsin last year and im trying to get back into hunting again, and to teach my 14 year old son. Its been about 10 years since I have hunted. Also just got done camping in Cumberland state forest area last week, "Bear Creak State Park", and visted Farmville area, Its a nice rural town but not too small it even has a Walmart there. Please count me in. :) Please let me know eather way. Thanks.
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Welcome to the Board Take!, I'm sure if we can pull this off there's plenty of room, but I just have to twist Eng's arm...lmao
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
I've been on the road and haven't had access to a computer. Great to see that this thing is still alive. We are in Falls Church VA now. I am still very interested in this for my boys and me. Please count me in.
Thanks for all the hard work. Let us know what our next steps should be. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Let me bring this thread "TTT".....
Hey Takeahike, I have been all over Cumberland State Forest and into Bear Creek Lake too. Beautiful area! I have hunted Cumberland and spooked a big buck from his bedding area once. I have gone back numerous times looking for him. I know he's out there! ;) Butch A. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
I'm still interested as is Capt Brad.
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Lmao Butch,
Your not still after that spooked Buck are you... I have a solution butch just incase you meet up with him again. I have these Bino's that have a digital camera you can shoot him a few times even at a distance...lol I sure hope you have another encounter with him so I can see the pic. much luck in your prowl!!!.. hehehe Bag Em! |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
LOL!!!
Yeah, VASavage, you got it!!! :D Hey, maybe I should buy a popup ground blind and just live in it, ha ha ha ha.... {Rehashing the story.....} I was scouting Cumberland State Forest and quietly walking up a trail. The trail went uphill and to the left. Downhill along the left side was a giant patch of thickets and briars and junk. Me - being the eternal newbie - innocently was walking the trail, quietly, looking for signs and buck rubs and whatnot, not realizing the direction of the wind. All of the sudden ZOOM!!! out of nowhere, I saw this giant streak of brown with a flapping white tail, take off at Mach 4. I saw the rack on him and freaked out. I don't know who was more startled, him or me! [:-] I will say this: I WILL FIND that buck!!! [8D] Butch A. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Is this going to be a lost idea, I hope not im still intrested! any one else? time is running out. "YA Snoose Ya Loose" at least for 2004-05 hunting. Just trying to re-spark good idea.
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Good idea, Takeahike.... Good idea to bring this back "TTT". I am still very VERY in a VA Group and anxiously awaiting any further new ideas and/or info.
Butch A. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Well, Butch and Take
I've been giving information about land here lately and if you read a few post back you'll see the most updated. I guess at this point in time we either act or loose out. However Eng has started this out so I only think it's fair we give him and Taz or whomever else looking into the leads a little more time. I understand it's ticking pretty fast, I would assume it become appropriate to get a head count to those serious about what's currently available so we will know how much each participant ( hunter ) will have to expense. But who am I, I'm just as eager and willing to sacrafice just a lil of my piggy bank..lol if needed to ensure if we only have 10 folks interested that I'm able to grab a spot..lmao.. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Oh and last I counted hmmm.. how much is does 2+2 =..lmao well ok ok there's about ten of us still interested that's enough to cover 250 of those acres without having to spend over Um.. shaking head I have that George Bush Syndrome today excuse me...lol Fuzzy math $250.00 per person now that's cheaper than anything I've read while looking into these high priced club fees of 800-1200 a year thus far..lmao Well why are you reading this gather some hunters and let's make this reality!!!!!!!
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Let's Get-R-Done!!!

RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
I'm here....waiting....the Farmville property sounded good. I thought we were going to try to get together and look at it. What happened to that plan?
![]() |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Well, I was out in the farmville area seen quite a few deer and it's real nice just IMO. However I want a place to call my own hideaway but it's a tremendous expense alone. I'm going to email the owner again just to keep the line of communication going.
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Let me know where to send my check, im ready.Ya Hoo. But I think we should all get together and look at the property maybe meet the owner there and he can show us the lay of the land. this would be a good time to sign lease and make payment. Also good chance to meet each other.
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Take I would agree on that, time is creeping away, heck watch butch comes in talking about TTT..lmao
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
[:@] I hope we come up with something, I have so much planned right now my fishing trip Sept 11th www.fishaholics.supreme-enterprise.net
I just bought a lot of new stuff, well I upgrade more like it. I had this gut instinct that I was going to have a good hunt year, so I purchased a CVA Mag Bolt, Got new barrel for the shot gun, upgraded my bow from Mountaineer Aggressor to a Fred Bear Pro Master and I'm still spending. So I guess I better hold on to about 2.50 cents just in case we acquire this land..lmao oopss Fuzzy math I meant $250.00 that'ss my penny contribution as 1/10 of the property..lmaoooooooooooo |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Hey, I'm still up for the Farmville lease. What's the status of the get-together and walk-through?
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Don't know, Aught Six.... I'm eager to find out myself!
Butch A. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
As mentioned, the season is quickly approaching. I am new to VA hunting, and desperately need direction and guidance from fellow VA hunters. Please count me and my two teenage boys in on this. We would be happy to take a trip to the property to meet other hunters and to view the site. We are anxiously awaiting word on what the next step will be in order to make this a reality.
We're in Falls Church now. If any of you are in the area, please e-mail me or call me. I'd like to get together and talk about VA hunting--my boys and I are eager to learn about hunting in this state. TEL (703) 533-6750 MOB (703) 463-1546 |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Gun,
I'm in woodbridge and I'm in that area atleast twice a week working, maybe we can meet up and do some shooting etc. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Well I have an 8:30 p.m. telephone call with Andy this evening the property owner in farmsville. Again I'm trying to show we still have an interest so he don't lease all 2000 acres. All we want is 250 or the one track at 1000 acres?
I see we have about ten still very interested, I don't know if Eng went to the property or called. Last I spoke with Eng he was working on the golf course property. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
VAsavage270, How did the phone call go? did you get a chance to line anything up? my tringer finger is geting itchey.:D
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
The way things are looking for me, I couldn't afford my share of a 1,000 acre lease anyway. If we have ten people, why don't we look at the 250 acre plot? Even if we were all to hunt on the same day, we'd have plenty of space, IMHO. If we maintain a good relationship with the land owner, we might be able to secure a larger chunk of land next season.
What do you guys think? |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Sounds good to me, but if we have ten members and they each bring other family members or guests it could get crowded. I don't think that aspect has been addressed yet.
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Hello, I did speak with the owner briefly but I had an alert one call from my job during that time we are to talk again this evening.
To the question of being crowded, cost etc., my goal is to keep the expense reasonable for all interested. I figured with the 250 acres there would be plenty of room. However if guest etc., were to hunt as well yes this will become crowded I guess it all depends on how each may be located, type of weapon etc. I think the more hunters the greater the land needed, this will still offest cost at 20-30 hunters it will almost remain the same with less expense picking up 30 hunters on the 500 acres $167.00 a man/woman/child whichever the case. Recap, this is for either 1000 acres, 500 acres or just the minimum 250 acres @ $10 per acre. I will keep all of you informed all my conversations with the land owner. I will be asking to walk the properties within the coming week. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Keep up the great work, VAsavage270!!! [8D]
I don't have "guests" or family that hunts with me, so I'm just a common newbie out looking for a prime piece of land to hunt. 250 acres sounds sweet and will be plenty of room. My oldest sister/bro-in-law in upstate NY have that 125 acre farm and over the 4th of July holiday, when my wife/kids/myself went up there, we saw the whole place and it is HUGE!! Here's an aerial photo of the farm. This is exactly what 125 acres looks like. .....Now double that for a 250 acre spread for the VA group and you can image how much land we could have! Butch A. P.S. the photo is below and my sister outlined the property with a black line. ![]() |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
FYI, I'm not planning to make a habit out of bringing guests (I tend to prefer solitude during a hunt), but I might bring my wife once or twice over the season for deer, and maybe a few times for turkeys. The only other person I hunt with lives in MD, and he's not willing to pay the non-resident license fee to come down here.
Perhaps we should all consider how many guests we might bring--this will give us a better idea of how much land to lease. Still, even for 10 people plus 10 guests, I think 250 acres is plenty as long as everyone doesn't decide to go wandering around by themselves. |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
I would never bring more than one guest/ family member at any one time.
|
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Good Morning,
Gentlemen this is a recap of interest so far I have complied a list of those showing their particular interest as well for friends and family. This is just a list from the most recent postings as Butch would say “TTT” if I missed anyone forgive me. It’s inparative to have an accurate count of hunters, members so we’ll know how to plan etc., As it stands we have enough to cover the expense for 250 acres and not reach too far into our pockets. I am working diligently on speaking with the owner and setting up a property visit etc. I have also contacted a few other property owners I spoke with when we first broached of this club possibility that I put off to the side. I had the understanding a few of our group members were working on other specific properties as well, so if you have that information we would greatly appreciate you sharing. Time is of an essence! Otherwise I’m almost married to Quantico again with a few other little spots I Umm Just visit locally lol well to sum it up sneak into commuter lots along the 95 corridor it works hehe. In any case I have a place I’ll be hunting this year when all else fails it’s just a drive Suffolk VA 1. Aught Six 2. Bowhntr 09 3. ButchA 4. Coolbrze0 5. Eng40 6. Gun-barrel Diplomat 7. Phoenix MA 8. Takeahike 9. Taz? 10. VaSavage |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Damn I see the board has been almost as busy as I have lol!!!!
Work has not let me have a chance to stop and think to often and trying ot tidy up[ honey do's before season hits hard... Update on the golf club.. No much different... I wont get an answer until close to oct.. Due to the fact they are unsure when the start date of the 2nd course is going to be.. I have spoken with a few other landowners and have on possible 400 acre lease in caroline county..... I made a offer and have to see if its more than the group that had it last year... I did express our desires and such and that seem to be a good thing with him but he said the guys who had it last year would have first chance but I could offer up a bid and if it was higher than what they offer we have a chance for it... and to sign a multi year lease with him!! I am also getting ready to go to Quantico as well as Belvoir.... It will be nice to hunt in the back yard (quantico) and nice to be able to hunt after the first sat in Jan.. Belvoir lol... Va... What other props do you have in your hand?? lol I tried the one you sent last year/// like 185 acres in Stafford but the guy told me the county was going to buy it when I spole with him a month ago so it was a no go ! |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Eng!! dang your alive..lmao
Well I've been playing phone tag with the farmville owner, I will be at Belvoir also Sept. 26 for the IBEC so I can hunt through March..lol I will be at Quantico as well to qualify for base side hunting areas 1,2,3, etc. I have to check I think they open up Sept. first and I need to renew my pass. Other than that I have nothing much I tried contacting the Stafford Property along with a few others from last year. Damit Eng you better find something fast you started this madness which has us all up and ready for a kill..lmao |
RE: New Va Group Hopefully!!!!!!
Update, I just received an email from a piece of property I was looking at last year.
I am the owner of a 322acre farm in Bumpass Virginia. The farm is located approximately 5 minutes below Lake Anna with its Southwest border on the Little River. The "Little River" is exactly that , a little river with much Marsh land, ideal for ducks. Other water on the farm includes two streams, one on its East border and one on part of the Northwest border. It also has large pond about 6 or 8 acres and another small pond about 1 acre. Approximately 180 acres are open fields with the balance woodland. There is an abundance of Whitetail, Turkey, and other small game since it has not been open to hunting for the past ten years. Richmond is a 45 minute drive south. Owners Reply: The previous hunters have been placed on extended overtime at their job. They all work at the same place. I was notified that unless the overtime is dropped they will not renew. That being the situation, the property will be available. He wants $5 per acre minimum originally it was $4 not bad considering 10 of us @ $161 each. Thoughts? Ideas? |
