I've been watching you guys pull this club together on here. it's cool to see this happening. I hunted w/ a club all of my life until this past season. and I killed more deer than ever this past season.
I hunt in King William County, not too far from you all.
Good luck on the club, you guys should have a hunt club website too, take pictures of your kills etc... just a idea I wanted to pass along

Pearl Jam brings up a good point. How IS the club doing? Has any progress been made? Haven't heard from Justin in a while. Hope he's OK.
BTW, are you familiar with the Outdoor Show that is scheduled for around August 19 in Richmond? Is this a good event to spend a day at?

Hey all..... dispute the rumours I am alive and kicking & fussing lol !!!!
Work has had me working from pre dawn until dark most days when the weather is nice.. and when it isnt I am doing landscaping(outdoor lighting, retaining walls, paver walkways etc.( mostly hardscaping but also some turf care and irrigation)) on the side trying to earn some extra money lol.....
I have also been doing leg work for the club as far as knocking on doors. I have a good solid possibility on 580 acres in King George. I also have a strong lead that I will know for sure during July on in Stafford, its close to 200 acres.
I am working on the golf courses they are putting in up in stafford along the river for a bow hunting only type deal. The company I work for is doign alot of the erosion control and hydroseeding as well as some other site work. I am trying to kiss ass up there on the days we work there so that it helps out with that deal.
I am going to try to check the board every other day or so from now on. But feel free to drop me a email if you have and questions, leads, suggestions or just are trying to figure out if I am still breathing..
Taz.. I am going to try to get out your way this weekend.

Eng40sqd,
It's great to hear from you! I am so glad to know things are coming along... Whatever I can do down here in Richmond, let me know.
The Showplace here always has the Hunting/Outdoorsman Show in August, like Pearl Jam said. When I went to it for the first time, I lost my mind! [8D] Then the next year and year after that, it started to get old. Waaaaaay too many people for the capacity of the building. If anybody goes, they better go early, 'cause you ain't gonna find a spot to park! [:'(]

Great to see you back, alive and kicking. For a while there we thought you might have fallen off the face of the earth, or something.
Also glad to see that the club is still a solid possibility. Thank you for all your hard work. Wish there were more I could do to help, but I live in Hong Kong and it's kinda hard to ... well, you get the picture.
By way of reality check, what kind of fee might we be talking about if this thing comes to fruition? Can you provide a ballpark guess, with the caveat that the numbers may change and thus the fee structure. I certainly won't hold you to it. I just want to see if it is something that would be within my realm of possibility. As you know from my earlier posts, my two boys and I will only be in VA for a year from this summer and could only commit to one season.

The show sounds like it might be worth attending for part of a day, especially since I'll be a newbie to the area and to VA hunting. Figure I might pick up some pointers and a few gear items. Our Air Attache here at the Consulate in Hong Kong will also move to VA this summer. We hope to do some hunting together and we figure the show might be a good place to get familiarized with the scene.
Speaking of "way too many people," what can a hunter expect when hunting on public land in VA? Are there a lot of hunters out on openning day and on weekends? I recall on my last deer hunt in Utah many years back, our party rode horses for two hours into a remote area to discover a sea of blaze orange in the valley below after the sun came up (most were Californians). There was shooting all around us. It sounded like a war zone. Needless to say, the deer were on the move. One hunter who staged on a hillside across from our party shot a small two-point just twenty paces from where we'd tied our horses in a thicket below our position. We had a few words across the valley. It was crazy. Is that what VA hunting is like on public land? Or can I expect something a bit more sane?

In the Black Powder forum you mentioned that there is some hunting on the military bases around Richmond. What is that like? Does it require a special permit or permission? What is the success rate like? Is it crowded? I'd hate to mistakenly shoot a Marine.

I can't speak for the military bases but I have hunted Virginia's National Forests and they are home to some great public hunting. They are busy on weekends and opening days but most hunters will not venture far from roads and trails. So, if you do not mind the walk you can hunt by yourself without too much trouble.

Glad to see you still are working on things. Hope to see you this weekend.
