Good luck fellas. Keep the pressure on all involved. Not just the lawmakers, but the appointed heads of your wildlife depts. as well.

Well, I just got a reply from Senator Colgan. To make a long story short, he wants to hear from more constituents before he makes a decision, but he currently favors the ban due to noise complaints.

I'm getting together some statistics to try and come up with a ratio between bow and gun usage. If I can get some solid numbers, I'll let him have it.

Frankly, I get a kick out of hearing gunfire, but I guess some old ladies just can't stand to hear a shotgun going off half a mile deep into the woods a few times in fall. People like that wouldn't want to live in my house; there's a skeet/trap range well within earshot.

Excuse my ignorance on this. But could a land owner shoot a crow, a stray dog, or set up in his pasture and shoot clays on Sunday?

They sure could. And nobody is trying to have that banned. My guess is that most opponents of Sunday hunting are opponents of hunting in general, and will use any excuse they can find as a reason that it should not be allowed. It is also of interest to me that Delegates and Senators that favor the ban offer their own views as to why the ban should stay, yet don't bother to consider the opinions of the citizens that elected them to office. I thought we elected them to represent "we the people".

That kind of negates the noise issue then.

I find it unbeleiveable that you can't hunt on sunday. If a politician suggested that down here he would do good to last till the next sunday.

Actually we have a season on crows and they can't even be shot on some weekdays:

Crow

Season:
August 16-March 20 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and
Saturday only

Shooting stray dogs is generally frowned upon. Most localities have animal control officers that technically should be contacted to handle them. I'm not saying that is what is done, I'm just saying that would be the "proper" way to deal with them. As far as recreational shooting on Sundays, that is permitted as long as the locality does not have any restrictions against it.

I go to school all week and end up skipping days to hunt. During bow season I usually only get to hunt 4 days, the saturdays. I would love to see Sunday hunting passed to increase the oppurtunities for me. I disagree with the idea that Sunday hunting would promote non-residents hunters and decrease our bag limits. I believe hunters with this opinion are somewhat greedy and think only of themselves. What about the younger children? Some I know get to hunt every other weekend at best and that is only during rifle season. Think of the future, times have changed. If you disagree with Sunday hunting, then don't hunt on Sundays. Don't ruin it for the working class and students. Think of the future of hunting, not yourself.

I would hope that NO self respecting sportsmen would even THINK about attempting to argue with this post. The number of youth hunters in VA is declining every year. This is not a problem that is going to fix itself. If we don't do something to open up more opportunities for the next generations of sportsmen, the number of licensed hunters will continue to decline.

I received a letter from my Delegate, Bobby Orrock. He stated that he respects my opinion in the matter but must respectfully disagree with my view. He will NOT be voting in the affirmative for any of these measures.
