RE: Virginia Sunday hunting petition
Gee, I wonder how come it is we in La. have all these game animals to hunt when we devastate the population on Sundays. Stating that the closed Sundays is for the game or that it is a great help to them is just a bogus argument. Or that it's so the non-hunters can enjoy the outdoors is just as bogus. How many non-hunters do you see in the woods during the middle of winter? Hunting season is, what 3 months long? What about the other 9 months? They can't enjoy it then? This law is based solely on religious beliefs and no one has the right to force someone else to live according to their beliefs. And I do consider myself a religious man, and I thank God that I don't live in such a narrow minded place as Virginia. And if I did I would become a Seventh Day Adventist and sue the state for discriminating against my religion by banning hunting on that guys Holy Day and not banning it on mine.

RE: Virginia Sunday hunting petition
Oh yes...I love the religion argument...funny thing is, I'm a church goer and I'm pushing for Sunday hunting, so that argument is completely bogus. Let's see...church starts at 11am...that gives me from sunrise to about 9:30 to hunt, go home, shower, change clothes, and make it to church on time, so I dare anyone to try the religion argument with me!!
A5, you bring up a good point with the Seventh Day Adventist. We have an article just recently put on our website about this. In case anyone hasn't been to the website yet, it can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/sundayhuntva Darrell |

Gee, I wonder how come it is we in La. have all these game animals to hunt when we devastate the population on Sundays Like I have said before, I'm against it for selfish reasons. I'm man enough to admitt that :D My reasons have nothing to do with religion. It has to do with where I hunt. |
RE: Virginia Sunday hunting petition
I too have signed the Sunday hunting petition. Strange how the legislature clings so tenaciouly to the ban on this one form of recreation. Aren't the so-called "Blue Laws" pretty much toothless these days anyway. Is there any activity, commericial, recreational, or otherwise that is still prohibited on Sunday, OTHER THAN HUNTING? You can sell alcohol, open retails outlets and shops (if you pay the employees overtime), go to the movies etc. Except for hunting, Sunday is just like the rest of the week. Shouldn't the Blue Laws now be called the Blue Law as it seems only hunting is still prohibited on Sunday?
Not every hunter is gonna take the option anyway. Many will still do what they do now on Sunday, sleep, read the paper, football, yardwork, visiting friends and relatives and so on. Sunday hunting, I don't think, would greatly change the habits of hunters. Saturday and vacation time set aside for hunting will still be the main days. On a positive note, the availability of Sunday hunting may bring more people into the sport and generate more support for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. As hunters and shooters, we need a wide base of support to prevent the anti-2nd Amendment people from eroding our rights any more than they already have. Sunday hunters are unlikely to wipe out animal populations overnite. I trust the wildlife biologists at VDGIF to monitor game popluations and to recommend any necessary adjustments to game regulations. Sunday hunting in VA is an idea whose time has come. |
RE: Virginia Sunday hunting petition
I live in Tennessee and hunt in Virginia. I have never liked the "no Sunday" hunt rule especially when you pay a premium for a non-resident hunting license. Hunting Sundays would be great, because you double your hunting opportunities assuming you can only hunt weekends like I do.
I'm glad to see this moving forward and hopefully cause the VA legislature or DGIF to reconsider. Thanks ! |

What's the status of this? The General Assembly is in session and I don't see where anyone has introduced it yet. Is it going to get a vote this year?

RE: Virginia Sunday hunting petition
My fault ( I guess
) I checked the VDGIF website and it listed the bills brought forth and when I looked earlier today it was not listed. |
