NCLeatherstocking...that would be option,but....
I work in an automotive shop,Monday through Friday. If I' m not there,I don' t get paid. My wife works Saturdays to make ends meet. So now you see why I' m pushing for Sunday hunting! I' m betting that there are others here with a similar story...

I don' t think it' s just the game commission. Alot of VA hunters (myself and quite a few friends included) don' t want it to change. I' m not here to argue, just stating that the game commission has to decide what' s best for the wildlife and try to please us hunters and non-hunters at the same time.

I agree, I would hunt everyday if I could but at the same time if we push the game to much than it would become harder and harder to find good hunting spots. Sorta like hunting deer in the same confined area day after day, you tend to change their bedding habbits.
I' m all for supporting other sportsman, but if you think that the ones inforcing these laws in the VGIF are not sportsman also, your wrong. They obviously have them in affect for a reason.

We should be able to hunt on Sundays. If you dont want to hunt on Sunday' s dont but dictate what others can do.
If your argument is giving the game some rest...great....Im all for it. How about Tuesdays!!!

No not Tuesdays. I' m off every other Tuesday
Here are some of " MY" reasons...
- I like the seasons the way they are. If Sunday is allowed then the seasons could be shorter. I wouldn' t care too much for that. As in weeks not days.
- I hunt national forest 95% of the time. If Sunday hunting is allowed then the areas I hunt will be filled with non-residents leaving me little places to hunt.
-It' s not about the money the non-residents could bring in either. The Gov. has already did the unthinkable... he STOLE money from the VDGIF, so if we do allow Sunday hunting and the non-residents bring their money, that' s just more money the Gov. can steal, which would not help the VDGIF, Hunters or the Wildlife.
- I' m selfish, I' ll call myself that before someone else does
I like the game we have, the seasons we have and the spots I get to hunt. I take vacation so I can hunt more, and at times I could not hunt. I actually missed pretty much of a decade of hunting while in the military so I make time for it now.
-We have a pretty good game population going. Allowing another day and more hunters is going to hurt that population and or our game limits.
-I don' t look at the no Sunday hunting as a blue law. Guess that' s just me. I just look at it as a day off.
-It doesn' t matter if I don' t hunt on Sundays. All of the above will change if Sunday is allowed, if I stay at home or not.

The VDGIF doesn' t make these rules. The virginia state legislature makes this type of law. There are many a legislator in virginia that don' t agree with the huntign community at all. These individuals routinely vote down bills like this. If you look back over the years there have been several measures presented to overturn the BLUE LAW that prevents you from hunting on Sunday (the ONLY recreational activity you are not allowed to do on Sunday). I read all these comments and opinions as to why you would not want hunting on Sunday but they hold no weight. The animals get their rest. They actually get it during the week when most folks are at work and there are very few afield. If that is not the case then all you fishermen ought not to fish on Sunday either. Don' t you think the fish need a break also? Sunday hunting has worked in 43 states, what is it that they have that we don' t. I cna tell you the states that don' t have sunday hunting are al on the eastern seaboard and were members of the original 13 colonys. This law is so out dated it' s not even funny. We hunters are the only community singled out and told what we can and can' t do on Sunday.

I agree with O2bhntn... Why note stop fishing on sundays if you are worried about the wildlife getting a rest. Or better yet.. If you think the animals need a rest day then make it on Wensdays.. ALOT and I mean alot of people I know can only uhnt on weekends and have no time to get off during the week and or work somehwere that they do not have any vacation or much of any! If you do not want to hunt on Sundays by all means that would be your choice and right to do so or not. I woudl not look down on anyone who did not want to for whatever reasons, But I feel that it should be opened up for those that wish to and only can have a chance to enjoy the outdoors!! JMO

never could understand the logic behind not allowing hunting on sunday but allowing bars to open, sell alcohol and just about everything else the ' BLUE LAWS' were passed to control.

TScottW99,
How would Sunday hunting result in either shorter seasons or less game? Adding a few hunting days without increasing bag limits should have only a minor effect on game populations.
No one would be required to hunt on Sundays, anymore than people are required to hunt on Tuesdays. However the option would be available if someone wanted to hunt.
Personally I would like to see a three week rifle season with Sunday hunting; I live west of the Blue Ridge. I would also like to see sometype of QDM started and a fall turkey season during the deer season again. I know, I know, I' m living a pipe dream
