Default Acorn crop in central Va.

Been doing some scouting on my lease in Culpeper Co. and not seeing any acorn crop at all. Still lots of old acorns from last year but nothing fresh. Hope it keeps the deer moving this year as we did not see much movement at all last year!

Mast years for oaks are generally every 2-5 years so this may be a slow year for your acorns. It will get the deer moving around to find something for foliage and if you have a tree or two doing well then many deer will hit it up. If not I would be slightly concerned with the deer moving to another area to find food. Good luck.

I was out this morning squirrel hunting and saw a few new acorns (white oak) and some hickory nuts. Not as many as last year in this small farm woods. I don't usually hunt deer in these woods but did see two, one was a young'un with spots looking for his momma.

In Albemarle county, Two weeks ago, there were so many acorns on the ground I couldn'tt put my boot down without being on a dozen in some places. This weekend there so many falling from trees it sounded like rain. The squirrels drove me crazy. These were red oak not white oak.

I've been out more now in Augusta an Rockingham Co. and some on National Forrest just not seeing acorns like last year. Most of the corn is cut now so the deer will be moving more I would think, looking for food.
