It can be pretty good. I never ended up in green swamp, as I scouted a back up spot of mine in richloam. Found a doe bedding area, and ended up seeing 7 does at 2 different spots, so all in all a pretty good hunt. For those who hunt there a lot, is the rut on the same time frame as gs or later?

The Story..The Good , Bad and the Ugly.

Let me tell you all the story...I've got a decent place to hunt but it's about 1 mile back in the swamp..2 trys...and both times I was lost..On the 22nd...I actually walked past the spot and a 1/4 mile later back tracked and found my tree I had planned out. It's about 5:30AM and I'm using a climber to get up about 12 feet. Oak trees are bad with the climber I use as the climber teeth can't cut into the tree..so when I sat in the seat the seat fell..OH CRAP!! my butt is on my heels..and I had a very hard time standing up. BUT I did...the next time I'm taking a racket strap to reinforce the seat..I'm snuggled in ...pull shotgun up and turn on mosquito Therma Cell..At 7;00 it's finally light enough to see..at 7:10 I thought I heard a hog or deer grunt..I ignored it. At 7;10 I heard a deer grunt. That is good news...I was going to challenge him by making my own grunt. TEN minutes later I noticed something brown working toward me in the palmettoes..It was a buck...And by law the main beam must be 10 inches at least and 3 points minimum on one side..It looked good., Quickly I took aim and fired.Deer died on impact. Now the main trail isn't that far away so I decided to take a short cut..}--; NOT GOOD. !!!! I had all ready called Matt to help me...Well it was now 45 minutes and I had turned backwards..and was LOST. Matt decided to fire his pistol and I my shotgun to try to find each other..***NOTE Matt has a bad heart and has medicine if it goes bad..I'd promiced he was only to help with the deer cart..Well he found me..but I was nearly passed out. He started dragging my deer and his heart started acting up..CRAP!! I took over again;;dragging him 20 yds and then resting 10 minutes..Finally we got to the trail..only 3/4 miles left to go..Matt took the deer the rest of the way. In the picture..the smile is fake..I'm nearly passed out. Matt was a real life saver today..The next time..I go in to my spot..I'm hanging red flagger ribbon in the trees to find my way back out. The deer taste great..and I thank God we are still alive.

Wow Chuck, that's quite an adventure. Glad it all turned out good. Just wondering, do you guys not use a GPS? We both hunt some of the same nasty terrain and I would never do it without my GPS....heck I started carrying a back up unit this year.

My principal had a GPS..was lost for 10 hours..no sir..I'm not good with electronics..I've been a my spot 30 times..just plain rediculous..somehow I got turned around. I was a point man in the army..should have shot an asthmus on my compass..and than do a 180..totally crazy..I know better..Nothing better than shooting and seeing your deer fall down dead. ,,about 15 yds away..My shot gun is off..as he peered through some palmettoes I squeezed a shot at the neck..MISSED...all the shot busted through his ribs..I eat the heart and liver..there was no heart or liver..and some shot went through the other side..I was using an 870 Super Mag..modified choke ..3 inch Magnum load Remington

Last year..probably the same tree...I had one sneak up behind me..with one hand I pointed at the rib gage..holding the gunfrom the hip... missed again..shot 12 inches to the right and 9 pellets buried into the skull of a 6 point and 2 in the neck...dropped in his tracks..took about 30 seconds to die...felt bad..
I have sights on my shotgun..I'm going to Tenoroc to shoot it in,..I've always underestimated buck shot..never again..

WE eat ALL the meat..the only meat wasted was a rack of ribs..I got 26 big meals from the deer...13 roast 4 Back strap 1 tenderloin 3 stew meat packs 2 rib pks..{1 long and 1 short} 3 lg soup bone meals packages..Many folks are very wasteful...All day in a crock pot with Greek peppers ..any cut of meat falls apart..My neck roast is about 8 pounds..and my 2 front quarters I cut high,,should feed 4 hungry folks easily..I'll tell ya what is awesome,.,,after you cut out the backstrap,.,.,cut the back bone,,,into 4 eight inch sections .what you have is 4 prime rib roast...yeah the strap is gone but you didn't get it all on each 8 inch section. there is 2 pounds of meat left...loin meat {-; that a crock pot will separate for ya,...
