Looking for some information on hunting Kentucky public ground what wma when is the best time which produces the nicer deer?

Hey Nick.. I've hunted WMA's in western, central, & eastern Ky and they're all about the same.. Hard as hell hunt.. Granted, I've only used recurves and seemed to be "just out of reach" every time.. I hunt the J. Kleber & Rich one the most because it's closer to Georgetown.. I've seen some GREAT deer there, but not close enough.. 150-160 range.. Plus they schedule the 1st quota hunt at the beginning of the rut which kills me, cause after a wknd of 100 or so people trompin' around the woods & sling'n lead, you're lucky to see a squirrel for 2 weeks but if you can hit the place hard before that wknd, you could do good.. In western KY, the TVA or Peabody WMA are good places too.. Ain't sure where you're lookin' at but hope I've helped a little bit..

Well, I ain't gonna tell you what kinda gear to bring cos that's usually personal preference but, here in Kentucky, the best time to land a big buck is during bow season. Wait til mid September to start scoping out your spots, then lay down some corn feed. Big bucks here in Anderson/Shelby County will go through 200lbs in a matter of days! That's how you know there's a nice one out there. Anyhow, once you do that, late September all the way through early February are great times to get your buck. That gives you almost half a year of planning. Make sure you wear multiple layers or buy some windproof bibs cos the windchill will make you freeze quicker than the snow will! You may be thinking 'Wow, it's 70 degrees today!' but that don't mean it won't be 20 degrees later that night! I've never liked wearing gloves during bow season (or ever for that matter) but, you'll want 'em. If you're like me, cut the fingers out of your gloves! Last but not least... Get an early start, as with any region, the big bucks come out real early and the sun don't rise til 'bout 8:30am. Stay out and glass 'em. You'll wanna take your shots before 7:45pm cos 'bout that time it'll be so dark ya won't be able to see nothing! Oh! Make sure your truck has an ample heating system!
