I went to check my cameras friday and found two nice rubs looked to be fresh, last year there was a big 8 in this area didnt get any pics of him but it got my hopes up. There had not been any signs of bucks in this spot for two years now this 8 moves in and rubs and scrapes start showing up. i pulled my camera so I would not want to go back in. i will just wait till opening day evening.

Velvet has been coming off in SEVA over the last few days. I've been seeing scrapes for the last week, but they aren't the typical deep woods rut scrapes that we usually think of.

I've heard these usually called 'community scrapes' and usually I find them right slam on the edge of fields where a low hanging branch juts out over the field edge. Find a younger water or live oak tree with a few early acorns dropping and stick a trail camera up and you'll see quite a parade of deer working that one scrape.... dang near all of it will be late late at night too. But it will give you a nice picture of what sort of bucks are in your area.
