The terrain around Charlotte will be flater, but hilly. The woods will be larger and not chopped into woodlots like amuch of the north. There are a fair number of pine plantaions (pines planted in rows).
In the east hunters use dogs to move deer much like the human drives in the north. Dogs do not respect property lines and this results in some conflicts, but sometimes the dogs run a deer past your stand, so it is a mixed blessing.
Suggest buying the Sportman's license, $40 for resident. I includes hunting, fishing & tags for bear, turkey(2), deer(6) and gameland access. Click for more details http://www.ncwildlife.org/index.htm

he biggest difference will be the length of deer season. NC has continuous deer hunting from the Saturday after Labor day through New Year's day. Starts with bow, then a week of muzzle loader just before gun season, they have proposed 2 weeks for 2009-2010, the gun season starts on the Saturday in October nearest the 15th.
Hopefuly moving down there also.
