I have try a rattle bag before and had no luck ( in Arlington VA)I will try a mix up day to day and see if there is a differentiates. I work on a golf course that has some really nice bucks and I use them as practice. I haven not rattle for them yet but I have doe bleat and a grunt for some I have seen in 50 yards

Hunted a mile deep in on a saddle on Quantico today. Did not see a thing but it sure was a beautiful morning. I did however notice several large rubs on the edges of the ridge I was hunting. Acorns were barely dropping.

I have never seen as many acorns and the size of them are crazy this year! I've seen plenty of doe and small bucks, waiting on the big one. might have to take a doe to put some meat in the freezer though. most of the deer though have been going to the bean fields late in the afternoon and right at the edge of dark. plenty of activity though! gotta get lucky sooner or later

Do you think the bumper crop of acorns indicate a harsh winter this year?

I've got a feeling that it does. Not only that but the squirrels sure have been working hard in the woods this past few weeks

I was always told that those black and orange wooly hairycaterpillars were a sign of a bad winter. if thats the case I've seen more of those this year than I can ever remember

Here in Northern Virginia last year we had the largest acorn drop I have seen in 17 years in the woods....was off the hook in Prince William/Faquier.

VA5326, do you often get a buck to respond to rattling in NOVA? I am fairly new to hunting so I don't know whether I should or not.
