Since I moved to Prince William Countyin 1999, I have pretty much exclusively hunted Quantico, as I have nowhere else to hunt. I noticed the amount of deer I saw this year declined dramatically. The total kill on the base was only around 60% of the normal rate. However, I did arrow 3 deer on the base this year, one being a nice 8 pointer. Overall I like the hunting experience on Quantico as it is laid back for the bow areas and the people on base treat you with respect.

If any of you are interested for next year, keep your eyes open for rabbits and good rabitat areas, I rabbit hunted there a few years back and got tired of going through the hassle of getting a base license, etc. from the game check station each and every time out. We've got a sweet duck boat and we used to slay some ducks/geese down there and I'll probably be getting another base license for '08. Anyways, to the point, like I said it's been a few years and I'd appreciate any input on some areas that hold good rabbit populations as that and waterfowl is pretty much all I'll be doing. I have a few areas in mind, but more can't hurt!

Hey cool---there are some long grass fields in the middle of the woods on 15B I believe....they are hundreds of yards long each. Every time I have walked them I have seen alot of rabbit droppings...since I am not a rabbit hunter I would not really know how to interpret the area..,,,seemed like a really unique spot for small game. Right as you drive up MCB-1 I believe 15B is on your left....turn left on that small side road so now 15B is on your right...park at the first or second little mud road and walk in following the trail...thats what I remember if you wanted to scout it out...good luck.

Thanks! It's been 4/5 years since I hunted Quantico, and can't remember exactly which area 15B is, but I'll keep that in the back of my mind for this coming fall. Ya'll are welcome to join us rabbit hunting too! I'll have to remember to call and make sure you aren't deer hunting then, don't want to ruin a hunt. In fact, we often get people that come by and thank us for running the beagles, as we've pushed more deer to people than away from them. At least that's the feedback I get.

Pick up a map at the game check station and it has all of the hunting area/roads listed on it....best of luck coolbrze. The game check number is 703-784-5523 if you have any hunting questions...It opens back up during turkey season.
