From my research, the "best" breed is a Bavarian or Hanovarian Mountain dog, but pups are nearly impossible to find and priced at $1000-2000. Here is link to some serious trackers.

Chocolate lab or beagle. Buddy of mine has a choc. lab that has found 3 bucks so far this year, and he was very easy to train. I have a walker hound that i use to trail blood
but if i didnt have deer dogs i would have a lab. The only thing i dont like about the lab is he doesnt bark on the trail, where my hound will and bay the deer too. Thats just personal preference though because i love to hear the dog work!

try not to get a hound. most of them will leave a track for a hotter one and unless your finding blood along the way you might not know it has switched deer..................tony
