These fires are getting pretty nasty. Our air quality was terrible today from all the smoke. I'm in-between the Green Swamp fire and the North Lake County burn. Geez. This is getting **** 1998.

Most of the fire plows from up our way are down there and now we have had a coule of bad fires in the last few days. I don't think our local forestry crew has but one plow in the whole area. DRY is an understatement.

Might there be some fat lighter stumps burning there? Been smelling that familiar smoke the past few days here in SC. Folks are saying it's from your fires down there.

on moms day i was showing a guy the direction to the river, i turned around and there was this wall of fire heading towards us on the powerline, ended up being 5 seperate fires from lightening strikes.....luckily they went out by themselves or with the help of forestry...forestry guys always get a bum rap for being lazy until theres a fire, i want to give credit to each and every one of them for doing what they do...playing with fire once in awhile is fine, but all of the time, no thanks...it's been raining here off and n , so theres no more smoke issues for me, how about y'all?

In the 60's and 70's it was common for the timber companies to do a lot of control burning to keep the fire fuel manageable, but it seems that the cost of doing it has kept the companies and private landowners from burning. Not only does burning help control wildfires it also is the cheapest form of hardwood control. New growth after burning helps wildlife also.
