Hey guys lets not forget these in FL....They are 1"X1" and have 10 times the venum of a rattle snake and are everwhere in the Fl woods. Especially in the Bark of trees. Always use a limb or stick when turning things over on the ground.

Something else to consider...all hogs don't run. I've had them stand there and hiss at me. Also there are big packs of wild coyotes out there in the Green Swamp. You may want to carry a big knife out there with ya..I do. I was going to get a concealed weapons permit specifically for scouting...I called Tallahassee and read the booklet." You can not carry a concealed weapon in any park or National forest except during general gun season. "

OH! Another reminder about Green Swamp.....Don't get caught wondering around Green Swamp at sun down!!!!
Quest for Swamp Ape
Marlowe isn't the only one with faith that the creature exists.
Patricia Edwards of Lakeland has seen what she believes is the Swamp Ape in the Green Swamp. Although her sighting was in the fall of 2002, it was not until she read about another sighting that she decided to go public.
It began when she was going to visit a relative in an Ocala hospital. The morning was clear, and she was driving along Country Road 471, a long, straight stretch of road through the Green Swamp. She said she saw something less than a half block away.
"If I live to be a couple hundred years old, the story will not change," said Edwards, 69. "There was very little traffic and I see something that ran out in front of me. It looked like a giant sloth except I know they're slow moving -- this one moved fast and dove down into the edge of the road into a ditch area.''
"It started out running, galloping on fours like a dog, but when it dove I could see the arms come up. It was sizable, almost like a bear, but not a bear, not the way its arms moved."

A cat that swims and has shark teeth. I may never return to the swamp again LOL thats a great pic.
I hadnt heard the Ape thing before. Thats pretty intresting considering FL has its fare share of released invasive species, including more than one population of monkeys, as well as them being sited in Polk county. FL isnt one of the biggest states for import of exotics for the pet trade. There are farms, and faculitys all over this state with exotics. Wouldnt surprise me to find an ape running around the green swamp
Them there spiders are the ones i worry about. I cant stand them and allways have a stick or something waving around in front of my face as i walk thru the woods. I once had one of the trantula looking fruit spiders run up my leg one time in the shed. I put 6 bug bombs in there that afternoon. I am getting the chills just thinking about it.

Cowboy,
Interested you mentioned about the Monkeys. I have a relative that was visiting me. (I live in Land O Lakes) Anyway, my relative swears they saw a monkey in the woods coming to my house. They said it was only a small monkey but definetly a monkey. So I have been on the look out for a monkey, but I have yet to see it. (-: I just thought they were crazy, maybe they did see one. I wish they had a camera.

Once while driving through Lakeland at night time i spotted a good sized black bear walking across Main Street. I couldn't believe it. I learned the next day it had escaped from Ringlings Brother Circus which comes to down nearly every year.
