Well my son has tagged his second buck. saturday evening he was wanting to hunt alone. he has done his hunter education and he sat last year a little by his self. he is very responsible for 12 and handles a gun better than alot of grown men.
So yesterday i sent him off to my penthouse in the pasture. he had his trusty 243 rem model 700 youth . We had our radios so i could keep tabs on him. i was about 1/2 mile through the woods from him and it was getting late and he said there were two yearlings in front of him. then at about 5:25 he said he saw something and shut up. i just listened and shortly the little 243 broke the silence. he said he had shot a buck and it was a 8 pt.
i got to him and we started looking . after a search we found no blood. i had a flashlight for it had gotten dark and was just kind of sweeping the area. now when i say flashlight i mean magcharger( very good investment). all the sudden i saw a buck all rolled up in a thicket just about 40 yards from where he said he shot him. not a drop of blood!!
The boy killed a young 13" 8 pt!!!!! he was one proud guy! I think i have created a lifetime hunter!!!
I am most proud of his judgement not to shoot the yearlings ,which in ark he could have done, but to wait for something he could be proud to show off.
I think i have a lifelong hunting buddy!

Alright, SouthArk!! Congrats to your son! I just CANNOT WAIT for my son to get his first deer. It goes on the wall no matter what it is. Got a ways to go, though...he's just 6 and he just went to his second "deer camp" with me (actually he's just gone for one day each of the last two seasons). He managed to sit quietly on stand for a whole hour this past Sat morning before he wanted to go back to camp and cook a big breakfast. Spent the afternoon "hunting" around the woods showing him scrapes and rubs and explaining what they meant and why bucks make them. Next year we'll go for 2 hours on stand and maybe he'll actually see a deer LOL! We had a great time anyway.
Congrats again!

Like Father like Son?
Sounds like he has been doing some fishing too.
Don't pull that lure out of the water or they will be right there.
